Bid a Fond Farewell to Cafe Promenade at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel

Classic Dining and Afternoon Tea Spot Closes on August 11 as Part of Multi-Million Dollar Redesign of Luxury Washington, DC Hotel's Lobby

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Jul 23, 2012) - All good things must come to an end and with that, friends and neighbors of the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel should mark their calendars and make a date for a "last look" at the luxury Washington, DC hotel's Café Promenade. For the past 30 years, this elegant dining spot has hosted thousands of power breakfasts, afternoon teas and meals celebrating important occasions for visitors and Washington locals, but guests can look forward to the addition of a new restaurant concept later in the year. On Saturday, August 11, 2012 Café Promenade will close to re-open as a 3,800 square foot gala event space. In the interim, diners can enjoy the temporary restaurant in the Colonial Room, one level below the lobby. The transformation is part of a multi-million dollar redesign of the 4 star Washington, DC hotel's lobby, restaurant, bar and retail space.

"We welcome past guests and our Washington neighbors to give a memorable send off to Café Promenade," said General Manager John Montano. "This renovation will usher in an exciting lobby and restaurant concept for the Mayflower and we will continue to serve our guests superb cuisine in a memorable setting."

Known as the Palm Court when the hotel near the Washington Monument opened in 1925, visitors came to the Mayflower to enjoy elegant tea dances and concerts. Following the repeal of Prohibition 1933, the space was renamed the Mayflower Lounge hosting "Champagne and Orchids," the prestigious kickoff of Washington's social season. This beautiful space continued to evolve over the years, meeting the changing needs of the hotel guests and community, from hotel restaurant to ballroom and then to its current Café Promenade opening in 1983. The historic ballroom's dramatic skylight, chandeliers and murals will remain intact.

The new restaurant and bar will reopen in late Fall 2012. The Mayflower Renaissance Hotel is located at 1127 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20036 near the National Mall.
