FREMONT, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 11, 2005 -- AuctionDrop (www.auctiondrop.com) today announced it is presenting a collector's edition copy of "Zachary's Ball" by Matt Tavares for auction on eBay. AuctionDrop sells valuables for people on eBay, accepting items worth more than $75 and weighing less than 25 lbs. The popular illustrated children's book has been signed by 19 members of the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, making it a one-of-a-kind, must-have item for baseball fans and collectors of all ages. Proceeds from the auction will benefit First Book, a national children's literacy organization that gives new books to children from low-income families. The auction commenced on Sunday, April 10th and will conclude on Sunday, April 17th.

Members of the 2004 Red Sox who have lent their signatures to the book include: Johnny Damon, Alan Embree, Keith Foulke, Adam Hyzdu, Curtis Leskanic, Derek Lowe, Pedro Martinez, Ramiro Mendoza, Kevin Millar, Doug Mirabelli, Trot Nixon, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Dave Roberts, Curt Schilling, Mike Timlin, Jason Varitek, Tim Wakefield and Scott Williamson. Since members of the 2004 team have moved on to other Major League Baseball clubs in 2005, this collection of Red Sox signatures will never again be replicated.

"AuctionDrop is delighted to coordinate the auction of this high profile item on behalf of First Book," remarked George Northup, CEO of AuctionDrop. "And what better time than the start of the baseball season to offer this collector's item. This auction is a great example of how our service can be used to raise money for a variety of good causes."

Told in flashback, "Zachary's Ball" combines magic, nostalgia and the power of a child's imagination to weave a delightful tale about our national pastime. The book has garnered outstanding reviews from Publishers Weekly, School Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews, among others, and makes for an ideal gift for young and old baseball fans alike. "Zachary's Ball" is published by Cambridge, Mass.-based Candlewick Press.

"We selected AuctionDrop to coordinate this auction based on their proven expertise with eBay," said Kim Willingham, co-chair of the local Boston Advisory Board for First Book. "We're so excited about the preparations they've put into making this auction a success and also thank the Red Sox players for lending their support. Not only is 'Zachary's Ball' a wonderful book, but fans and collectors alike are sure to enjoy looking at the players' signatures and remembering the magical 2004 Red Sox season."

"I've become very familiar with First Book's outstanding work and am proud to have played a role in facilitating this auction," said Kathryn Nixon, wife of Red Sox right fielder, Trot Nixon. "When Trot told his teammates about how the book could be auctioned to benefit First Book, they were really eager to get involved since it's such a great cause. I'm looking forward to following the progress of the auction when it kicks off on April 10th."
