The GUINNESS STOREHOUSE® has been named 'Europe's leading tourist attraction' in the prestigious World Travel Awards. Hailed as 'the Oscars of the travel industry,' and decided by an open vote, the award was presented to the Guinness Storehouse on September 5th at the European Gala Ceremony in Forte Village, Sardinia which was attended by hundreds of tourism and hospitality leaders from across the world.

Shortlisted alongside some of Europe's most historic and recognizable attractions including: the Acropolis, Athens; Buckingham Palace, England; La Sagrada Familia, Spain; Ribeira do Porto, Portugal; the Roman Colosseum, Italy and the Eiffel Tower, France; it was Ireland's top tourist spot that won the largest public vote.

Now in its 22nd year, the World Travel Awards is widely acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade.

Speaking at the European Gala Awards Ceremony, Paul Carty, Managing Director, Guinness Storehouse said:

"Today is a very proud day for the Guinness Storehouse team. We were honoured to have been shortlisted amongst such iconic attractions but to be voted by the public as 'Europe's leading tourist attraction' goes beyond anything we could have imagined.

We wish to claim this as a victory for Irish tourism. One in every two holidaymakers to Dublin visits the Guinness Storehouse and we are very aware and very proud of our position at the front line of the warm Irish welcome. This award is a great acknowledgement of the team's dedication to providing an unforgettable, world-class visitor experience.

He continued, "I would like to whole heartedly thank all of the Guinness Storehouse fans from Ireland and around the world who voted. We are delighted to be recognized as Europe's Leading tourist attraction at the prestigious World Travel Awards and could not have achieved it without their support. We look forward to celebrating our win with our visitors over the coming days".

Commenting at the Awards Ceremony, Chris Frost of the World Travel Awards said: "For 22 years the World Travel Awards have been recognizing the very best consumer experiences across the globe; from Hotels, and Resorts, to Airlines and Destinations. This year some of the most fantastic attractions in Europe were shortlisted. The Guinness Storehouse is one of these. To win this category is a real achievement and a testimony to the Guinness Storehouse as a global brand."
