BigFix Drives Security+System Management Convergence With New-Generation Endpoint Protection Solution

BigFix, Trend Micro Bring Integrated Systems and Security Management Offering to Market Just Three Months After Partnership Announcement

EMERYVILLE, CA--(Marketwire - April 15, 2009) - BigFix, Inc., a leader in high-performance enterprise systems and security management solutions, today released a new version of the BigFix Endpoint Protection suite, integrating technology from BigFix and OEM partner Trend Micro. As enabled by the BigFix-Trend Micro technology alliance announced earlier this year, the new solution brings together the BigFix Platform and Trend Micro Core Protection Module, with BigFix Endpoint Firewall, Network Access Control and Client Manager for Third-Party Endpoint Protection to reduce the cost and complexity of managing security risks on distributed IT infrastructures.

More Effective Enterprise-Wide Security at Reduced Cost

The BigFix Endpoint Protection suite utilizes a common infrastructure with other BigFix systems and security solutions, enabling customers to consolidate to a single console and a single agent for many endpoint security and systems management needs. The BigFix Platform brings pervasive, real-time visibility while significantly reducing the amount of hardware and software needed for keeping endpoints up to date with the latest content security countermeasures, continually enforcing configuration policies, accurately distributing patches, and performing system management tasks.

Furthermore, by being able to see and manage fixed and mobile computers on an anytime, anywhere basis, BigFix Endpoint Protection customers can achieve near gapless coverage of managed devices -- a sharp contrast with other solutions that typically leave 8-15 percent of managed devices unprotected and unobserved at any particular time.

Executive, Customer and Analyst Comment

Amrit Williams, BigFix Chief Technology Officer, said, "Our goal is to shift the industry from its current state of multiple and disparate reactive endpoint security tools that leave the organization at risk to current threats to a situation where it becomes a proactive, cost-effective business enablement process. The providers of legacy solutions may argue about whose widget provides the best protection against traditional viruses or worms, but they completely lack the ability to effectively manage threats in dynamic enterprise environments. The important thing is to stay ahead of events and manage down forward risks -- not burn up time and money on damage control."

Mark Starry, director, Enterprise Architecture and Security Information Technology Services for Capital Region HealthCare/Concord Hospital, commented on his organization's experience with a Beta version of BigFix Endpoint Protection: "We are already reaping the benefits of the new BigFix-Trend Micro solution. It found and eradicated many Trojans installed on our machines that our previous solution didn't even detect. The removal of our previous solution and installation of the BigFix-Trend Micro Endpoint Protection solution has been effortless using our existing BigFix infrastructure."

Scott Crawford, research director, Enterprise Management Associates, said: "The synergy between endpoint security and endpoint systems management has long been seen as a great opportunity, considering the substantial redundancies in tools that distribute content or commands to endpoints, monitor endpoint status, and mediate endpoint behavior. An integrated solution helps systems management pros address a wide range of systems maintenance issues, from assuring a proper configuration and software complement to asset inventory, while security management is able to distribute and manage host anti-malware, intrusion prevention, and other measures to protect endpoints and users from risk."

Tom Miller, general manager of the enterprise business unit, Trend Micro, said: "The fast time-to-market for the BigFix-Trend Micro EPP solution really says a lot about the flexibility, openness and robustness of the BigFix unified management platform. Together, we can offer our respective customer bases a no-compromise best-of-both-worlds solution that enlists high performance management to enhance the effectiveness of some of the world's best content security point capabilities."

BigFix and Trend Micro will demonstrate the joint Endpoint Protection Solution at the RSA 2009 Conference in San Francisco, April 20-24, and at the Infosec Europe Conference in London, April 27-31. For more information on BigFix endpoint protection solutions, visit
