Figure Skaters Competing in Final Qualifying Event at TD Garden Before 2014 Olympics in Sochi; Tickets Start at $25

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Dec 18, 2013) - In a few short weeks, Boston will be the site of the biggest event in U.S. figure skating, as it welcomes the 2014 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships, hosted by The Skating Club of Boston. As the last qualifying competition prior to the selection of the 2014 U.S. Olympic figure skating team, the Championships will feature the nation's top figure skaters vying for the title of U.S. Champion, and offer a preview of Olympic stars who will compete on Team USA in Sochi, Russia this February.

The Championships will be held from January 5 - 12, 2014 at TD Garden and the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Single-session tickets for the Championships start at just $25 dollars and can be purchased at http://www.ticketmaster.com/

The event will showcase performances from a large number of talented skaters in the senior, junior, novice, intermediate and juvenile divisions. Over the course of the event, skaters will compete in four different disciplines -- men's and ladies singles, pairs and ice dance.

The Championships will culminate with the 2014 Smucker's Skating Spectacular show -- known as the Exhibition of Champions -- on Sunday, January 12 featuring all the winners from the previous week's competition. During the Smucker's Skating Spectacular, skaters perform creative programs of their own choosing free from the scrutiny of the judges, with show lighting and costumes.

Featured skaters at the 2014 Championships include:

  • Senior pairs top contenders, Caydee Denney and John Coughlin returning to challenge 2013 U.S. champions Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir, representing The Skating Club of Boston
  • Five-time U.S. ice dance champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White, who continue to gain momentum and popularity as they move closer to claiming the United States first Olympic gold medal in ice dance
