Government of Canada funds Festival International de Jazz de Montreal


MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - June 26, 2014) - Canadian Heritage and Canada Economic Development

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages and the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism, and Agriculture) today announced that Festival International de Jazz de Montréal has been granted financial assistance.

Funding, totalling $2 million ($1 million for 2014 and $1 million for 2015), allocated by Canadian Heritage under the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, will help enhance the offer of shows to be presented to jazz fans.

The financial assistance from Canada Economic Development for the 2013 and 2014 editions of the Festival has been granted in the form of a $1,374,750 non-repayable financial contribution through the Quebec Economic Development Program and is earmarked for the implementation of an international marketing strategy to help increase the Festival's ability to attract foreign tourists.

  • The 35th Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will take place in the Quartier des spectacles, June 26 to July 6, 2014.
  • The programming, most of which is free, will feature more than 800 concerts from noon to midnight at some 15 indoor and 10 outdoor venues.
