Bikers Dread Winter Breeze

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 25, 2009) - 77% of bikers dread driving during the winter months, according to a survey by Swinton Bikes.

A poll of 1,000 motorbike insurance customers, found that winter is the least favourable time of the year for bikers. Not surprisingly, summer was top of the seasons, followed by spring and then autumn.

However, 21% said that they enjoyed riding during the winter as the difficult conditions helped them to improve their control of the vehicle.

Of those that disliked riding in winter, the biggest concern was ice on the roads (31%), followed by salt on the road (28%) which can cause erosion on the bike. Only 16% admitted to disliking the cold.

The research found the weather that bikers disliked the most was:

1. Icy conditions
2. Snow
3. Heavy rain
4. Fog
5. Hailstone

Anthony Aronin, Head of Swinton Bikes, said: "During the winter months the weather can be unpredictable with potential dangerous driving conditions such as snow and ice. Bad weather coupled with long dark nights is the perfect recipe for road accidents. We'd urge all bikers to take extra caution while driving throughout the winter months."
