Bill and Susan Knapp to Lead State's Largest Parade

DES MOINES, IA--(Marketwire - July 17, 2007) - Des Moines philanthropists Bill and Susan Knapp will serve as Parade Marshals for the 2007 Iowa State Fair Parade, set Wednesday, August 8. The Parade is the state's largest and the annual kick-off to the Fair, which runs August 9-19.

Bill and Susan Knapp have been long-time participants and supporters of the Iowa State Fair. Their generosity and enthusiasm for the Fair has set an example for others to follow, resulting in many improvements to an institution they cherish.

Mr. Knapp is Chairman Emeritus of Knapp Properties, Inc. His professional accomplishments are equaled by the honors he has received for his various community activities, including Variety Club of Iowa, Mid-Iowa Council-Boy Scouts of America and Des Moines Real Estate Board. He and his wife, Des Moines businesswoman Susan Knapp, have given of themselves as well as their resources to improve the lives of many in Des Moines and Central Iowa.

The parade will begin at 6:15 p.m. in downtown Des Moines. Spectators will be able to watch an estimated 200 floats, animals, vehicles, novelty and performing units. Staging will take place at the State Capitol Complex. Parade entrants will then travel west on Grand Avenue to 13th Street. Dispersion will take place between 13th and 18th Streets.

Three viewing areas along the route are accessible to disabled persons: the intersections of East 4th Street and Grand (south side), East 1st Street and Grand (south side) and 6th Avenue and Grand (north side).

Highlights of the gala event will be re-broadcast on parade night throughout central Iowa on KDSM FOX 17 beginning at 9:35 p.m. To be considered for television coverage, the description information on the application must be completed and returned. Due to the length of the parade, it is not possible for all entries to be televised.
