Billings Dentist Undergoes Advanced Training in Invisalign

BILLINGS, MT--(Marketwired - April 29, 2016) - Dr. Michael Stuart, a leading Billings cosmetic dentist, recently attended a course to expand his skills in using the revolutionary orthodontic service Invisalign to treat misaligned teeth.

Dr. Stuart, who is a Preferred Provider of Invisalign and operates Legacy Smiles, traveled to Idaho in February for elective training on how to treat complex orthodontic cases using Invisalign, a treatment that uses clear aligners instead of metal brackets and wires. Millions of Americans have used Invisalign to correct mild alignment issues, but Dr. Stuart said the technology has improved over the years to now address serious problems once corrected only with conventional braces.

"Invisalign started as a great tool for patients who had mild imperfections in their smile, but now we're learning that Invisalign clear aligners can be used almost in place of traditional metal braces," Dr. Stuart said. "The treatment is virtually invisible, and patients can remove the aligners for eating and cleaning."

Since the introduction of clear orthodontic methods like Invisalign, Dr. Stuart said patients have come to expect more subtle ways to correct their crooked or gapped teeth. This response from patients has encouraged Dr. Stuart to continue seeking training to expand his Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign is a system that takes between 12 and 18 months to complete. Patients are required to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours a day, removing the plastic trays only for eating and brushing their teeth.

"My recent training provided me with some more ammunition to treat orthodontic issues that normally would have to be addressed with metal braces," Dr. Stuart said. "Many of my adult patients prefer not to spend two years or longer wearing metal braces, so we're happy to have an alternative that better fits their lifestyle."

Legacy Smiles, 2700 Grand Ave., Ste. D, is a state-of-the-art facility that provides patients of all ages with gentle preventive care, restorative dentistry, sedation dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, laser surgery, dental implants, extractions and periodontal treatment.

Dr. Stuart, a Nevada native, has provided quality dental care in Billings for more than 25 years. He studied microbiology at Brigham Young University and received his dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. For the first two years of his dental career, Dr. Stuart worked in Utah, but he has lived and practiced in Montana for the past two decades.

Dr. Stuart has taken countless hours of continuing education to provide the latest dental techniques and procedures in implantology, oral surgery, laser surgery and cosmetic dentistry. He can place dental implants for patients missing single teeth or living without entire arches of teeth. Dental implants nearly mimic natural teeth in function and anchor permanent, natural-looking teeth.

Legacy Smiles offers permanent and removable dental implant restorations and can place mini dental implants for patients with thin lower jawbones. One popular permanent solution is All-on-4 and All-on-6 dental implants. These implants provide optimal support for permanent teeth on both arches. The All-on-4 and All-on-6 are designed to leave the upper palate open, which allows the patient to experience more tastes and to distinguish between hot and cold liquids.

In addition to dental implants, Legacy Smiles offers four methods of sedation, including nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, IV sedation and general anesthesia. Few dental offices offer all phases of dental sedation, but Dr. Stuart has received the training to provide patients with safe sedation options. Dental sedation is a powerful tool used for patients with a fear of the dentist or those who need substantial dental work completed in one visit.
