Bio-Rad Introduces ProteOn XPR36 Protein Interaction Array System

The New System Bridges the Gap Between Protein Discovery and Function

HERCULES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 12, 2006 --Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX: BIO) and (AMEX: BIOb), a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research products and clinical diagnostics, today announced the availability of the ProteOn™ XPR36 Protein Interaction Array System. Based on SPR (surface plasmon resonance) technology, the new instrument bridges the gap between protein discovery and function, providing the ability to understand protein interactions with the efficiency, flexibility, and versatility of parallel processing.

The ProteOn XPR36 Protein Interaction Array System is an SPR imaging optical biosensor that uses image analysis to simultaneously track optical changes at many different sites in an image (array) with high sensitivity and without the need for molecular labeling. With a dynamic and unique approach to multiplexing, the ProteOn XPR36 provides researchers the ability to run more experiments in a shorter period of time.

"The ProteOn XPR36 technology opens up so many possibilities because of its ability to measure up to 36 interactions simultaneously," said Vice President and Group Manager of Life Science Brad Crutchfield. "Discovery and characterization of proteins is the first step in understanding how proteins participate in a biological process. The next logical step is understanding how proteins function and how they interact with each other. The ProteOn XPR36 system provides researchers with the ability to characterize protein interactions with the efficiency and versatility of parallel processing. The end result is higher throughput and overall richer and more comparable data."
