BIOREM Launches New Product

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 23, 2005) - BIOREM Inc. (TSX VENTURE:BRM), is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary BIOREM Technologies Inc, has launched MYTILUS™ a new biological air treatment product to supplement its market leading biofilter systems.

MYTILUS™ is a combination bioscrubber/biotricklng filter ideal for high concentration, high airflow applications for removal of odorous compounds and hydrogen sulphide. Targeted applications include air emission control from specific areas in the collection and treatment of municipal sewage. Extremely high levels of hydrogen sulphide are developed during periods of low rainfall in hot climates such as the States of Florida, Texas and Alabama.

"The introduction of these systems will provide our customers with an additional capability to treat highly contaminated air streams reliably and economically," said Brian Herner, President and CEO of BIOREM. "Traditional air treatment systems such as chemical scrubbers and activated carbon adsorbers simply can't provide the required performance on a consistent and economical basis. While our biofilter systems have become a favorite among engineers for hydrogen sulphide and odour control, this extension of our product line enables removal of even higher levels of contaminant."

Bioscrubbers and biotrickling filters differ from biofilters in that they maintain a continuous cascade of water flow in a counter-current direction to the airflow in a manner that "scrubs" the air stream. Biological destruction of the contaminants takes place in a biomass film that forms on the filter packing media and/or in an aerated sump that collects the cascading water.

"We estimate that 10 to 20% of the municipal odour control market could use bioscrubbers and biotrickling filters as an alternative to biofilters, and we want to provide our customers with a range of technologies best suited to their needs." said Herner. According to market reports by The McIlvaine Company, the current municipal odour control market in the US alone is estimated at $350 million per year with approximately 20% provided by biological treatment systems.

Bioscrubber and biotrickling filters can also be used in conjunction with biofilters to provide two-stage treatment where extremely high efficiency removal is required. "By combining two biological processes, the user will obtain the best available performance at the lowest cost, still using the environmentally preferred biological treatment approach." said Herner.

BIOREM through its wholly owned subsidiary, BIOREM Technologies Inc., manufactures BIOSORBENS™ a high-efficiency permanent biofilter media and is a leading supplier of biofilters for air pollution control in municipal and industrial applications including the BASYS™ modular and BIOFILTAIR™ field erected systems. With over 100 installed systems and over a decade of experience, the Corporation's groundbreaking biofilters are the technology of choice for wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations across North America. www.biorem.biz.
