BIOREM Signs $480,000 Contribution Agreement With Natural Resources Canada

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 4, 2006) -

BIOREM Inc. (TSX VENTURE:BRM) ("BIOREM") is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a conditionally repayable contribution in the amount of $480,000 from Natural Resources Canada's Industrial Energy Research and Development Program. The research funding is for the development and pilot demonstration of a novel biological process technology for the efficient removal and destruction of organic pollutants in air emissions. If this project is successful, the developed technology will significantly reduce the energy used by companies to control contaminants in the air stream.

To treat air emissions, industrial painting application facilities commonly use regenerative thermal oxidation ("RTO"), whereby the exhaust stream is heated to burn the contaminants. These systems are very costly to operate due to the consumption of natural gas. In order to reduce contaminants in their air emissions, manufacturers have, over the last decade, converted from solvent based paints to aqueous based paints. However, the use of aqueous based paint with lower solvent content increases the energy required by the RTO. This increased energy consumption also leads to the production of unwanted Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) and other air pollutants such as Nitrogen Oxides and Carbon Monoxide. Countries all around the world are working to reduce the generation of GHGs and other air pollutants through the Kyoto Agreement and various Clean Air Acts.

BIOREM's SYNERGY™ system is a proprietary biofilter technology for effectively treating emissions of hazardous air pollutants that reduces the natural gas cost and has been applied successfully in smaller applications. The objective of the research is to increase the scale of the application of the SYNERGY™ system. Installation of the SYNERGY system would eliminate the need for an RTO and its consumption of natural gas. The environment would also benefit from the elimination of GHGs and other air pollutants associated with the combustion of natural gas.

BIOREM® manufactures BIOSORBENS™ biofilter media and is a leading supplier of biofilters for air pollution control in municipal and industrial applications, including the recently acquired BIOCUBE® modular units. With over 400 installed systems and over a decade of experience, the Company's biofilters are the technology of choice for odor control at Wastewater Treatment Plants across North America.
