BioSynergy-New Magazine for Biotech Entrepreneurship to be Launched at BIO2008

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS--(Marketwire - June 16, 2008) - BioSynergy (www.biosynergyonline.com), a new biotech magazine created in a collaboration between students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University and the University of Toronto is to launch its inaugural international issue at BIO International Convention (www.bio2008.org) in San Diego from June 17th to 20th.

"BioSynergy embodies the spirit of biotechnology - the convergence between business and science," says Justin Chakma, Editor in Chief of BioSynergy and incoming MIT sophomore. "It aims to kindle and rekindle passion for biotechnology. By focusing on its core ideas of entrepreneurship, risk-taking and long-term vision, we hope to catalyze the birth of the next generation of biotech's pioneers."

Targeted at those with a background in the life sciences, executives and students alike, the magazine features contributions from luminaries including James Watson, Nobel Prize Winner and co-discoverer of the double helix, and Daniel Vasella, CEO of Novartis, as well as features surveying exciting platforms including neurotechnology, genomics and gene therapy. The inaugural theme is biology's transition to a quantitative discipline.

"Other biotech publications attempt to weave out superficial stories for laypeople or are academic journals focused on specialists. BioSynergy fills an unexplored niche that appeals to the fundamental motivations underlying why people choose to pursue biotechnology," says Vinca Chow, Managing Editor at Stanford Medical School.

The magazine has already received high praise from biotech's biggest names. Legendary venture capitalist Tom Perkins of Genentech and Google fame describes it as "A most enjoyable read!" while Andrew Marshall, Editor in Chief of Nature Biotechnology says the first issue is "very impressive."

Thirty thousand print copies are to be distributed at BIO2008 and ten biomedical campuses across North America. The group is also planning an entrepreneurship competition and a case-study workshop to occur alongside the BIO2009 Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
