Birim Enters Into Option Agreement on Sangolo Property, Burkina Faso

MONTREAL, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - March 20, 2007) - Birim Goldfields Inc. (TSX:BGI)("Birim" or "the Company") is pleased to report that it has entered into an option agreement with Pyramide-M, a Burkina Faso company, to acquire the 223 km2 Sangolo Property located on the prospective Hounde Greenstone Belt in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

Under the terms of the agreement, Birim can earn a 100% interest in the Sangolo Property in exchange for a total of US$100,000 in cash payments spread over two years, (US$20,000 on signature, US$30,000 after Year 1 and US$50,000 after Year 2). Birim will also commit to a minimum exploration expenditure of US$150,000 per year over the two years stated. Pyramide-M will retain a 1.5% net smelter royalty, which Birim may exclusively elect to purchase for US$1,500,000 at any time. The agreement is subject to statutory and regulatory approvals.

"We remain focused on West Africa, which continues to be a prolific gold region where modern exploration has successfully delivered several world class gold deposits over the last 15 years" says Victor King, President and CEO for Birim. "The option to acquire the Sangolo Property is in line with our strategy of enhancing our overall exploration property portfolio in West Africa and offers Birim an excellent entry opportunity into Burkina Faso, a country with multiple prospective greenstone belts of the same Birimian age as encountered in Ghana, Mali, Cote d'Ivoire, Niger and Guinea. Burkina Faso is a stable multi-party democracy whose government promotes a progressive investor-friendly mining code."

The Sangolo Property is located within the prospective Hounde Gold Belt which currently hosts Semafo's Mana Project (combined gold reserves and resources of 1,045,800 oz) and Orezone Resources' Bondi and Golden Hill Projects (combined gold resources of 320,000 oz). Other companies with exploration properties on the Hounde Belt include Goldcrest Resources, Goldbelt Resources and High River Gold.

During the Company's due diligence, two separate zones of active artisanal workings were observed on the property. The first zone of workings is 700 meters long and 100m wide and is associated with a major shear zone associated with highly altered quartz stockwork veining in Birimian volcanic and sedimentary rocks intruded by felsic dykes. The second zone of artisanal workings can be traced over 1,000 meters along strike and is 20 meters wide. These two zones would provide the immediate focus for Birim's work and would be fast tracked to the drilling stage.

Birim Goldfields Inc. is an exploration company focused on gold exploration in West Africa and trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol BGI.
