Birim Goldfields: Drilling to Start on Tinga Concession, Far East Gold Prospect, Ghana

MONTREAL, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 3, 2005) - Birim Goldfields Inc. (TSX:BGI) ("Birim" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that drilling is due to commence on its newly acquired Tinga Prospecting Licence ("Tinga"), located in the Northern Region of Ghana. Birim acquired the 43.8 square kilometer Tinga concession from Semafo Inc. ("Semafo") in June, 2005 to consolidate current and potential resources in the vicinity of the Company's Kuri gold prospect which lies 10 kilometers to the east of Tinga (see attached map).

Semafo undertook an internal resource estimate of the "A Zone" mineralized shear on the Tinga Far East Prospect in 2000. The estimate was based on 100 Reverse Circulation ("RC") drill holes totalling 8,308 meters drilling. The resource calculation, which pre-dates the requirements of NI 43-101, gave 1,334,300 tonnes at 3.31 g/t gold, containing 142,000 ounces as indicated resources. (The reader should note that the relevance and reliability of the number of ounces as calculated in accordance with NI 43-101 could be affected). No further exploration has been conducted on this property since that time. Highlights of the drill program are as follows:

The Tinga Far East prospect is only one of a number of mineral prospects defined by Semafo on the Tinga concession. Little drilling or trenching has been conducted on the other prospects. With time, the other prospects will receive focused attention from Birim.

Birim's current program consists of 21 drill holes totalling 3,009 meters, 2,755 meters of RC drilling and 199 meters of diamond drilling, in the vicinity as Semafo's previous drill holes.

The objectives of Phase I of the drill campaign are:

- To verify key intersections previously reported by Semafo;

- To obtain a full stratigraphic diamond-core profile through the mineralized zone;

- To expand the down-dip resource base. In areas of high-grade mineralization, this will be extended to approximately 140 vertical meters.

Based on the success of Phase I results, a second phase of drilling will be initiated to follow the strike of the mineralized shear system which remains open to the north and south. Semafo have reported that the expression of the anomaly at surface is reduced along strike in both directions by complex surface regolith. Both the Tinga and adjacent Kuri targets constitute a new node of mineralization, which Birim hopes will attain critical mass and warrant development work.

Birim Goldfields Inc. is a royalty-based exploration company and trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol BGI.
