Birim Goldfields Inc.: Drilling at Chenchu Mountain Prospect to Begin

Historical Intersection of 7 meters at 4.38 g/t Gold

MONTREAL, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 4, 2006) - Birim Goldfields Inc. (TSX:BGI) ("Birim" or "the Company") has planned to commence 1,260 meters of reverse circulation ("RC") drilling at the Chenchu Mountain Prospect located on its Parabu Property in the Bui area of Ghana (see map). The drill program will commence this month once the current 2,600 meter RC drill program currently underway at the Chert Ridge Prospect on the Cluster Property is completed (see news release dated November 6, 2006). Chenchu Mountain is situated only 14 kilometers from the Tombe Prospect and 19 kilometers from the Chert Ridge Prospect, which is currently being drilled.

The Chenchu Mountain Prospect is comprised of a shear-bounded volcanic package of rocks surrounded by a dominantly sedimentary package. The competency contrast between the volcanics and sediments are considered to have created a focus area for the possible deposition of gold from hydrothermal mineralizing fluids channelled along the shear structure. The drill target is coincident with a 1,500 meter-long soil anomaly of greater than 100 ppb gold, 800 meters of which is greater than 200 ppb gold. The soil samples were analysed by Activation Laboratories in Canada using Neutron Activation Analysis.

Chenchu Mountain was first identified by Santa Fe Mining Incorporated in January 1997. Their work comprised of seven trenches and 27 RC drill holes (2,204 meters) on fences approximately 85 meters apart. The target area was drill-tested over a strike length of 1,000 meters. Significant results from the historical program are tabled below. (Please note that these intersections were obtained prior to the advent of NI 43-101 standards).

Birim recently commissioned SAGAX Afrique S.A. to undertake an Induced Polarisation (IP) ground geophysical survey over the Prospect. The survey provides evidence that the mineralisation is dipping to the northwest, contrary to the direction that formed the basis for Santa Fe's historical drilling program. Consequently, Birim intends to drill the 21 RC holes at Chenchu Mountain in the opposite direction to the Santa Fe's program, which may have missed the mineralisation on some fences. The IP survey has also provided a selection of new targets that may have a genetic association with the intersections tabled above, and will these will also be drill tested.

Mr. Beau Nicholls of RSG Global Consulting Pty Ltd, a Qualified Person under NI 43-101 standards, has independently verified the historical drilling, sampling and assay data reported in this release.

(i) Notes to Table 1 and 2:

1. Drilling:

a. All quoted intersections were drilled using reverse circulation.
b. Drilling was conducted towards a magnetic azimuth of 135 degrees
scissor holes were drilled towards 306 degrees to 315 degrees.
The drill holes were drilled at inclinations of -45 degrees
except for DCH20 with was vertical.
c. Down hole surveys were not performed.

2. Assays:

a. Drill results are for 1m interval riffle split RC samples and are
quoted to 2 decimal places.
b. Trench results are for 1m interval saprolite samples.
c. Laboratory sample preparation comprised of drying, crushing and
pulverising of the RC sample to obtain a minus 200#, 2kg sub-
sample. Samples were assayed at Inchcape Testing Services (Ghana)
Ltd in Obuasi, Ghana using 50g Fire Assay with Atomic Absorption
Spectrometry (AAS) finish.

3. QA/QC:

a. No duplicates, standards and blanks were inserted into the Santa
Fe sampling sequence. Inchcape Testing Services (Ghana) Ltd
applied internal quality controls.

4. Intercepts reported are all greater than 5 gram meters and are
constrained with a 0.5 g/t lower cut-off grade, no high cut-off
grade, and up to 4m (consecutive) of internal dilution. Intercepts
of only 1 meter in width are not reported despite some containing
grade. (ii) Trench 9500N can be bulked to an intercept of 42
meters @ 1.36 g/t gold if internal dilution of greater than5
meters is accepted.
