CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - November 17, 2014) - Black Friday store hours have crept earlier and earlier over the past 7 years, and 2014 is no exception. According to a chart built by Brad's Deals, the deal curators that post the best deals from across the web every day, the average major retailer will open its doors at 5:43 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

The chart, which is also visible here, analyzed 8 years' worth of open times for 7 of Black Friday's biggest retailers: Best Buy, Kohl's, Macy's, Staples, Target, Toys R Us, and Wal-Mart. Compared to 2013, this year's average open time has moved earlier by 82 minutes. Five of seven stores -- all except Toys R Us and Wal-Mart -- will open earlier this year than last.

"Black Friday is probably a misnomer," said Brad Wilson, CEO and founder of Brad's Deals. "Not only are we seeing retailers open on Thanksgiving, but pre-Black Friday sales start several days before, and some Cyber Monday events extend through the whole week after. The lines have blurred and Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and everything related to them have become an entire shopping season."

Of the stores analyzed, Best Buy and Toys R Us will open the earliest -- both at 5 p.m. The five others will open simultaneously at 6 p.m, though it's worth noting that Wal-Mart is open 24/7 on Thanksgiving (its first round of Black Friday deals don't kick off until 6 p.m.). Fun fact: Wal-Mart has remained open on Thanksgiving since 1988.

Black Friday has come a long way since 2007 when the 7 stores' average open time was 5:16 a.m on Friday morning. That's a far cry from this year's 5:43 p.m. Thursday average -- 11 hours and 33 minutes to be exact. The largest year-over-year jump came between 2012 and 2013, when the average open time went from 11:30 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. on Thursday.
