DALLAS, TX--(Marketwired - Sep 9, 2014) - Dr. Venus Opal Reese, owner and CEO of Defy Impossible, Inc. (www.DefyImpossible.com), a successful coaching business, hosts Black Women Millionaires Live Oct. 10-12 in Dallas.
The three-day business-training event focuses on giving black women the tools to "monetize their mess" -- just as "Dr. Venus" did.
"I don't do capital; I don't depend on angel investors," says Dr. Venus, a former university professor who holds two master's degrees and a Ph.D. in Philosophy/Performance Theory and Literary Criticism from Stanford University.
"What I'm great at is monetizing, but that starts with having the sense of self and self-worth that frees you to defy the impossible. You will never out-earn your self-image."
Black Women Millionaires Live, co-sponsored by BET Networks and the Tom Joyner Morning Show, will explore the issues that keep even high-achieving black women from breaking the million-dollar mark, and teach them to identify, monetize and leverage their own million-dollar moneymaker. They'll have access to black women millionaires, including Dr. Venus, who are intent on equipping their sisters with the mindset and tools to transform their lives.
"Every black woman has a million-dollar moneymaker inside her. It's not located in her brain; it's located in her pain," Dr. Venus says. "I teach black women how to make their first million -- or their first stress-free million. I show them how to monetize their 'mess' into a seven-figure business."
Dr. Venus has lived what she teaches. As a 16-year-old, she was kicked out of her mother's home and lived on the streets of Baltimore. But she stayed in school, which provided structure and two meals a day, and met a teacher who transformed her life.
"It was a regular schoolteacher who got me off the streets by seeing the value in me -- and making me see it, too," Dr. Venus says.
That's why part of the proceeds from the October event will go to the You Matter Mentor Award, a scholarship fund for teachers and others who make a difference in the lives of black girls.
