BlackBerry Partners Fund Announces Regional Selections in the BlackBerry "Super Apps" Developer Challenge

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 27, 2010) - BlackBerry DEVCON 2010 – BlackBerry Partners Fund today revealed the names of nearly 400 applications for BlackBerry® smartphones that made the cut in the first round of judging in the third annual BlackBerry Partners Fund™ Developer Challenge.

The Regional Selections, which will compete for a total prize package valued at over US$1.5 million, span four global regions (North America, Latin America, Europe/Middle East/Africa and Asia Pacific) and seven categories (Productivity, Fun & Games, Knowledge, Sharing, Navigate & Explore, Multi-media, and In the Know). The applications chosen take advantage of the BlackBerry® platform's Super App aspects. The complete list of Regional Selections can be found online at

"The response we received in this year's Challenge has been tremendous, and demonstrates the high level of interest by the developer community in the BlackBerry platform," said Kevin Talbot, Co-Managing Partner, BlackBerry Partners Fund. "We were also very impressed with how well the applications that were submitted incorporate 'Super App' characteristics, or the ability to seamlessly share information and interact with both native BlackBerry and third party applications."

Up to 28 Regional Semi-Finalists (up to seven from each region in any category) will be chosen by November 1, 2010. Each semi-finalist will receive a prize package worth over US$16,000. Regional Finalists will then be announced on November 18, 2010. Up to twelve Regional Finalists will receive prize packages valued at almost US$35,000. Up to four Regional Winners will be announced on November 30, 2010 and receive prize packs valued at US$85,000, including application promotion services, BlackBerry smartphones, BlackBerry App World™ marketing support, an Elite membership in the BlackBerry® Alliance Program and more. All applications are judged on quality, user experience and how effectively they have incorporated "Super App" characteristics, which take advantage of the BlackBerry® Application Platform's unique capabilities.

Prizes are made possible with the help of members of the BlackBerry Developer Services community – including 151 Ventures, App-Promo, DeviceAnywhere, Medialocate, Mob4Hire, and Perfecto Mobile – who are providing numerous services to participants in this year's BlackBerry Partners Fund Developer Challenge.
