Blackjacks Roadhouse: Female Hockey Celebration

An evening with the Chimos

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Jan. 4, 2011) - The Edmonton Chimos, a women's senior AAA team, was founded in 1973. They have represented Alberta at the National Championships 16 times, and have won the Nationals in 1984, 1985, 1992, and 1997. In their last appearance at the Esso Nationals in 2004, the Chimos won the bronze medal. Many Chimos have had the opportunity to play for Team Canada, including Shirley Cameron, Dawn "Dewey" McGuire, Jane Robinson (Lagace), Judy Diduck, Fiona Smith and current player, Meaghan Mikkelson (2010 Olympic Gold Medalist).

The 2010/11 WWHL season consists of 4 teams: Edmonton Chimos, Strathmore Rockies, Minnesota Whitecaps and the Manitoba Maple Leafs. The Chimos spent most of the first half of the season on the road and are currently sitting in second place with a 5-3-0-1 record. Upcoming home games in January and February can be seen in Wainwright, Vegreville, Mannville, Bonnyville, Wetaskwin, Beaumont and Leduc.

Current players include Canadian National Team, NCAA, CIS and ACAC standouts along with a few underage players who will be headed to teams in those leagues next season.

The Chimos are currently preparing for their major fundraising event of the year, a silent auction in Nisku at Blackjacks Roadhouse & Games Room on January 22, 2010. Festivities start at 7pm and a $20 ticket will get you access to the auction, a light buffet, and dance. The Chimos are currently looking for donations, sponsors and attendees help make the night a success. Please contact Arlan Maschmeyer, Operations Director (780) 918-8818 to find out how you can donate or purchase tickets.

The Chimos, along with the Leduc Hospitality and Gaming Operators, are preparing a bid to Host the 2012 Clarkson Cup in Leduc, Alberta. This cup is the female version of Stanley and this will be the first time this tournament will be held in Western Canada. We would like to take this opportunity to extend an invite at being an initial sponsor for the event. Please contact Arlan Maschmeyer to find out how you can get involved.
