BlackOut design, a Quebec City firm of creators that is rapidly expanding at the international level, will wow audiences tomorrow during the opening ceremony of the International Parachuting Championship in Dubai. Scenario, visual design, lighting, music and décor: BlackOut design is behind all the fine details for this mega-production with dazzling multimedia concept, a breathtaking 360 degree experience presented in a huge silo measuring 60 metres in diameter that was specially built for the event.

"The 360 degree projection onto the sides of the silo was an enormous challenge. Our team managed to prove that it was capable of pulling off each of the ideas, of turning dreams into reality," recounts Hubert Gagnon, chief design officer and founder of the company that specializes in the creation of visual environments.

It should be pointed out that the construction of the giant silo was carried out in collaboration with local suppliers and is a unique concept allowing spectators to be in the heart of the action. They will be seated in the middle of the structure and will be able to see the aerialists, projections and various special effects all at the same time, almost as if they themselves were flying in the air. Some 3,000 privileged guests will have the pleasure of attending the 20-minute performance. "We have shown once again that we can compete with the world's leading firms and successfully engineer the wildest projects out there, regardless of their scope," Mr. Gagnon goes on to say.

To successfully carry out its mandate, BlackOut design called on a highly-qualified team of more than 20 specialists: producer, sound engineer, lighting technicians, designer, motion designer, graphic designer, head video technician, cameraman, acrobatics coach, artistic designer, etc. "We oversaw every minute detail of this unparalleled multimedia experience. We're talking about a total of over 6,000 hours of work. It's a wonderful showcase for us, all the more so because the whole thing will be presented before the crown prince of Dubai Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum," Mr. Gagnon points out.

STARS OF SCIENCE IN QATAR

BlackOut design also set itself apart brilliantly on November 15 at the finale of the popular Stars of Science television show broadcast on the MBC4 network before more than 180 million television viewers in the Arab world.

The Quebec City team was in charge of designing the opening number for the grand finale, as well as the various product presentation numbers created by the show's four finalists.

"The concept was devised in its entirety by BlackOut design. The mandate is directly attributable to the award we won in April 2014 at the prestigious Live Design Excellence Awards in New York City. We are very proud to be able to export beyond our borders expertise developed in Quebec City. And it's just the beginning!" Hubert Gagnon asserts.
