BlackRock Announces Marcia Moffat as Head of Canadian Business

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 23, 2015) - BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE:BLK) today announced the appointment of Marcia Moffat as Head of its Canadian business. Marcia will join BlackRock this September, bringing more than 15 years of industry experience to the role.

Ms. Moffat is an accomplished business executive bringing to BlackRock a diverse set of experiences rooted in the Canadian financial services industry, across both institutional and retail businesses. Through her distinguished 12-year career with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) she held roles in three distinct and diverse areas: Retail Banking, Investor Relations and Capital Markets. In her last role at RBC, Marcia led the company's single largest business line, which was in its retail banking division. This followed her previous role leading RBC's overall strategy for interactions with shareholders, research analysts and rating agencies, as head of its investor relations team. Her initial start with the bank was as an investment banker in its capital markets division. Marcia began her career as a corporate lawyer in the New York and Paris offices of Shearman & Sterling.

Marcia will be joining BlackRock, most recently, from her role as founder and principal at Compasar Solutions, a management consulting firm delivering strategic insights and advice to companies and their management teams in the financial services industry, including those in the asset and wealth management segment. She is currently a Board Member of Manulife Bank of Canada and Manulife Trust Company.

"Marcia brings an exceptional blend of leadership experiences to our Canadian business," said Robert Fairbairn, Senior Managing Director at BlackRock. "We see incredible opportunity to expand our footprint in Canada and, with Marcia's insights and knowledge, she is ideally placed to represent the firm's capabilities across our diverse set of clients, and to develop our long-term business strategy in this market."

"We believe that in the evolving regulatory environment, her deep roots in the Canadian retail sector of the financial services industry positions her, and the firm, well for the next leg of growth in Canada," added Fairbairn.

"I am honoured to lead BlackRock in Canada," said Moffat. "I look forward to helping to take the business to the next level and to building on the many successes BlackRock has achieved to date in this marketplace. My focus will be on working closely with the Canadian business and investment community and, with my new colleagues here in Canada and from around the world, to expand BlackRock's position and reputation as a leading asset manager in this country."

The appointment follows a previous announcement that Noel Archard would be transitioning out of his role as Head of BlackRock Canada. Noel accomplished a tremendous amount as head of Canada over the past three years that he has been in the role including diversifying BlackRock's business lines with targeted growth in Fixed Income and Alternative mandates, introducing a set of mutual fund offerings, and evolving the iShares product set in Canada.

"I would like to thank Noel for his continued leadership over these past few months as we worked through his transition," said Fairbairn. "BlackRock in Canada is stronger than ever, which is a testament to the many successes Noel has achieved over his tenure as the Head of the business."

Marcia holds an MBA and a Law degree from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Science (Biology) from McGill University. She is also a member of the New York State Bar. She is a strong supporter of the not-for-profit sector and is actively involved with several charitable organizations, including The Ontario Brain Institute, Bridgepoint Hospital, the Whitney Public School Council and the Loran Scholars Foundation.
