Blackwave Expands Business Operations to Asia

U.S.-Based Vendor of Internet Video Storage and Delivery Solutions Opens HQ Offices in Tokyo and Seoul, Signs Agreements With Major Japanese and Korean Customers and Partners

ACTON, MA--(Marketwire - February 24, 2010) -  Blackwave, an innovator in Internet video storage and delivery infrastructure, today announced it expanded its business operations into Asia. The company recently opened headquarters offices in Tokyo and Seoul, and has staffed them with highly experienced managers and employees. It has also signed major customer and partner agreements in both countries.

Blackwave's new Asian initiatives are geared to launch the company into a solid leadership position as a provider of advanced video delivery solutions for content publishers, video aggregators, CDNs, cable/IPTV and wireless network operators to Japanese and South Korean corporate customers and reseller partners.

"There is a strong demand in Japan and South Korea for ultra-fast distribution of high-quality video content over the Internet," said Blackwave CEO Bob Rizika. "Our technology allows these companies to manage their own infrastructure, which increases ROI. In addition, we have all the protocols needed for them to deliver both over-the-top and TV everywhere."

Rizika noted that in this last year, Blackwave has made important headway on several fronts. "Through our efforts, we have hired top-notch, highly experienced managers from the cable/IPTV industry to drive sales and marketing, and partnered with strong service and support companies," he said. "In addition, we have partnered with Tier 1 resellers and signed major customer contracts." Rizika added, "We are well-established as a key player in Asia."

Blackwave establishes a strong position in Japan

In Japan, Blackwave's progress includes reseller agreements with IT Frontier Corporation, a Mitsubishi company that specializes in information technology solutions, and n2 Technology Corporation, a leading reseller of video delivery equipment. Blackwave signed a nationwide customer service and support agreement with Toshiba IT-Services Corporation*. Its initial major customer contracts are with digital content distribution provider SkillUp Japan Corporation. Internet Service Provider NEC BIGLOBE, Ltd. is under evaluation; it is proceeding very positively.

Blackwave's Country Manager for Japan is Shigeyuki Sato, a seasoned executive in the Japanese Internet industry. Over the last 20 years, Sato developed a rich knowledge of Japanese telecommunication, cable, broadcast and ISP markets through experience in a variety of senior leadership roles. Prior to joining Blackwave, he served as Country Manager for Envivio, a leading provider of IP-based MPEG-4 and H.264 video systems and solutions for telcos, enterprises and broadcasters. Before Envivio, he spent six years managing Japanese sales and operations as Country Manager for nCUBE (now part of the Arris technology portfolio).

*Please note: In a previous release Toshiba IT - Services Corporation was referred to as Toshiba Corporation. This was a mistake as they should be referenced as Toshiba IT - Services Corporation.

Shinsegae to play key role in Blackwave's success in South Korea

In South Korea, Blackwave formed an extensive customer relationship with Shinsegae, the nation's largest IT reseller. Shinsegae is using Blackwave technology as the foundation for building out its own Content Delivery Network. Shinsegae is also a Blackwave reseller partner and service and support provider.

Blackwave's Country Manager for South Korea is Shinhuei Lee. Mr. Lee has extensive experience in building high-powered teams geared for success. Before joining Blackwave, Lee worked for 10 years in the Data Storage Industry, including two years at EMC and eight years at Hyosung Information Systems, a reseller of Hitachi Data Systems. Prior to that Lee worked at KPMG-Peat Marwick in Australia where he provided technical and value-added consulting services.
