BLADE Network Technologies Delivers Industry's Most Energy-Efficient Top-of-Rack Switches for Telco Central Offices and Data Centers-in-a-Container

BLADE'S DC-Powered 1/10 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet RackSwitches Offer Energy Savings of Up to 35 Percent

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - February 18, 2010) -  BLADE Network Technologies Inc. (BLADE), the trusted leader in data center networking, announced today the availability of -48 volt DC-powered top-of-rack Ethernet switches for telco central office networks and data center environments. The new ultra-efficient DC-powered BLADE RackSwitch G8000 and BLADE RackSwitch G8124 offer significant energy savings over comparable switches.

BLADE's RackSwitch™ product family is a key element of BLADE's Unified FabricArchitecture™ (UFA), the industry's fastest, smartest, most integrable and most proven data center network fabric. BLADE's UFA products enable "Rackonomics" to radically reduce the cost and complexity of deploying physical and virtual data center infrastructure.

BLADE's RackSwitch G8124-DC is an ultra-low-latency 1U top-of-rack, loss-less 10GbE switch equipped with 24 SFP+ (Small Form Factor Pluggable) ports and redundant DC power supplies. BLADE's RackSwitch G8000-DC is a 1U top-of-rack switch equipped with 48GbE ports and four 10GbE ports for uplinks and/or stacking with redundant DC power supplies. Both switches support full Layer 2/3 networking and are designed for top-of-rack server and storage connectivity as well as aggregation layer data center switching.

In most conventional data centers, electrical power goes through multiple conversions at different AC voltage levels before finally reaching the equipment. At every conversion point, electricity is lost and heat is generated. Some server vendors are recommending all-DC powered equipment as a way of increasing energy efficiency. In addition, DC layouts result in lower cost distribution equipment and easier management. BLADE's DC-powered RackSwitch products were developed to meet these needs, while offering the industry's best price/performance.

An exciting growth area for data centers is in the new container market. Many vendors are now providing containers that house a thousand or more servers along with the associated network equipment. They are self-contained with built-in cooling and commonly run on DC power.
