BLADE Network Technologies Networking Runs Like a Dream for Warwickshire County Council

BLADE Network Technologies' Blade Server and Storage Switches Enable Cost-Effective, High-Performance Datacenter Networking Alternative to Cisco

LONDON--(Marketwire - January 14, 2010) - BLADE Network Technologies, Inc. (BLADE), the trusted leader in datacenter networking, announced today that its high-performance, low-cost and low-power networking switches for blade servers and storage systems have been successfully deployed by Warwickshire Country Council at its data center in Warwick, UK, as part of a high-density computing installation.

Warwickshire County Council decided to install HP's BladeSystem c-Class blade server solutions running BLADE Network Technologies' Ethernet switches to ensure compatibility with its existing Alcatel core network.

Midlands-based Warwickshire County Council oversees 18 towns including Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, and has a population of over 500,000. Its high-performance datacenter has been upgraded with the latest blade server technology to host third-party applications for the County Council's Directorates (Departments) as well as VMware to provide a virtualised environment. As a result of a more streamlined, responsive and high-performance computing environment, the Council is also able to benefit the local community by providing highly optimized eServices.

BLADE Network Technologies offers the most advanced, highest-performance and lowest-cost Ethernet switches for blade servers and storage in datacenters. These integrated switch modules dramatically reduce the number of Ethernet cables attached to the rear of the blade enclosure while adding sophisticated network intelligence.

BLADE's 10 Gigabit Ethernet blade server switches are recognized for having the lowest power consumption compared to any other switch in their class; fastest wire-speed performance and most reliable switching in their class; lowest latency; are the best networking solution for Server Virtualization; and seamlessly interoperate with existing networks.

Explained Ian Tharme, Warwickshire County Council's Production Business Consultant, "When we decided to upgrade and expand our blade server infrastructure, we installed BLADE Network Technologies' switches for HP's BladeSystem c-Class servers -- HP GbE2c Layer 2/3 Ethernet Blade Switch -- with the HP GbE2c Layer 2/3 Ethernet Blade Switch Advanced Functionality Software option.

"One of the key things this allowed us to do is run a Hotlink feature to enable failover between the server switches," said Tharme. "It completely meets our needs as it is contained within the server enclosures and does not give rise to any incompatibility issues with our Alcatel core network."

"We are delighted to have our leading Ethernet network switch solutions included as a key part of such a state-of-the-art local government datacenter project," said Charles Ferland, Vice President of EMEA, BLADE Network Technologies. "The UK central and local government sector is an important market and installations such as Warwickshire County Council, in partnership with one of our major OEM blade server partners, will continue to demonstrate our leadership and value proposition to other government users requiring open, high-speed, low-latency, low-power and low-cost datacenter networking solutions."

Added Ferland, "As clearly demonstrated at Warwickshire County Council, a key reason why BLADE Network Technologies' Ethernet switch products are so successful is our industry standards approach that ensures interoperability with any other vendor's datacenter infrastructure, systems and technologies."
