LOS GATOS, CA--(Marketwired - July 08, 2013) - BLASTT/Beyond Limits Active Senior Tours & Travel, LLC, the country's first tour and travel company focusing exclusively on serving the needs of Senior Games competitors, will officially begin taking reservations for its slate of 2014 programs at the upcoming Summer National Senior Games in Cleveland. BLASTT, LLC, is the new venture being launched by Senior Games athletes Doug and Marianne Hamilton of Los Gatos, Calif., to provide all services necessary to deliver active seniors to competitions across the U.S. Encompassing a full spectrum of athletic contests, from cycling, swimming, volleyball, track & field and triathlon, to soccer, water polo, badminton, bocce, golf and pickleball, there is a Senior Games event for anyone over the age of 50, of any ability. Currently, Senior Games are held in 49 states and 70+ countries, with annual participation in the U.S. estimated to be approximately 300,000.
"BLASTT makes it easy to get to the Senior Games, providing end-to-end services throughout each tour," said BLASTT co-founder Douglas Hamilton. "Senior athletes need only call or visit our website, select the Senior Games destination that appeals to them, and BLASTT will handle the rest."
While welcoming athletes and spectators to their booth at the exhibit hall during the Cleveland Summer National Senior Games, which will run July 19 - August 1, BLASTT's owners have been given permission to showcase the one-of-a-kind, solar-powered torch that opened the 2009 Summer National Senior Games at Stanford University. Believed to be the first non-fossil fuel torch used in the history of both the Senior Games and the Olympic Games, the torch uses high-powered LEDs, a faceted amber lens, solar-charged cells, and a mechanism that flickers the light to mimic the appearance of a flame. Merging tradition and innovation, the body of the torch was crafted of ancient redwood reclaimed from a building constructed in 1887.
BLASTT co-founder Marianne L. Hamilton was one of the Bay Area senior athletes selected to take part in the solar torch relay held during the 2013 Bay Area Senior Games. Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Anne Warner Cribbs, who chairs the board of directors of the California Senior Games, oversees the Bay Area Senior Games, was the director of the 2009 Summer National Senior Games, and is a member of the BLASTT advisory board, said it is fitting that Hamilton and her husband Douglas be allowed to display the torch in Cleveland.
"I am thrilled that Marianne and Doug have launched a tour company that will enhance the visibility of the Senior Games," Cribbs said. "As Senior Games competitors themselves, the Hamiltons know first-hand that these events are beneficial to the health of those over 50. Just as those of us who are involved in organizing the Senior Games are committed to creating a supportive, cordial community of peers striving to lead a healthy lifestyle, BLASTT's owners, who embody that lifestyle, are committed to increasing participation in the Senior Games."
Added BLASTT co-founder Marianne Hamilton, "We know what a positive environment exists at all Senior Games events, and want to share that with our peers. We hope to expand the community of seniors who are doing something they might not have thought possible, encourage those who may believe they lack the physical skills needed to participate, and celebrate everyone's success."
