Bleacher Report Achieves Scale and Performance With Redis Labs

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 4, 2014) - Redis Labs (http://www.redislabs.com), the leading commercial Redis provider, today announced that Bleacher Report, the Web's second largest sports media destination, has successfully implemented the company's Redis Cloud service to increase performance of its open-source Redis database deployment. With Redis Labs, Bleacher Report has been able to scale horizontally with consistent and smooth response times.

Previously, Bleacher Report relied on the open-source Redis database as the caching layer for its API service. With as many as 80 million unique monthly visitors, however, the site ran into issues scaling vertically with the standard open-source Redis server and experienced intermittent spikes in the response times. After switching to the commercial Redis Labs service, Bleacher Report's response times became significantly faster and more consistent. Even at great scale, Redis Labs' fully managed cloud service provides the site with top performance automatically and seamlessly, without requiring a database administrator.

While Bleacher Report found the open-source Redis' set operations to be extremely useful for the logic required in its API service, it faced issues scaling the database. Because open-source Redis snapshots data in-memory to disk, the memory available on the box was effectively reduced to half of the total available memory. Bleacher Report also wanted to utilize Redis clustering, which is still a work in progress for the open-source version. With Redis Labs, the company immediately benefitted from available memory and clustering.
