BLiNQ Networks Increases Reliability for NLOS Mobile Backhaul for Small Cells

Addresses Interference and Fading to Extend Mobile Backhaul to Hard-to-Reach Areas

PLANO, TX--(Marketwire - May 24, 2011) - BLiNQ Networks, Inc. today announced enhanced reliability for BLiNQ's recently announced mobile backhaul solution. New capabilities include Power Control and enhancements to BLiNQ's Managed Adaptive Resource Allocation (MARA) software for interference detection and mitigation for below roofline and urban compact base station deployments. These new capabilities significantly increase link reliability and mitigate interference and signal fading for reliable non-line-of-sight (NLOS) backhaul. Highly reliable NLOS mobile backhaul enables operators to deploy small cell base stations in densely populated urban areas where they are needed most, to guarantee capacity by ensuring that there is no service interruption on the backhaul link, and reduce deployment costs by simplifying the design and planning of the backhaul network.

BLiNQ is increasing NLOS link reliability with the following features:

  • MARA, an innovative, patent-pending technology that characterizes the radio frequency environment in the backhaul network. The information is used to coordinate access of multiple backhaul nodes to the air interface so that inter-link interference is eliminated.

  • Power Control optimizes the power transmitted by each backhaul node to maintain required capacity. Power control allows every unit to transmit at the minimum possible amount of power to maintain the required throughput reducing interference in the network.

  • Multiple Antenna Systems is optimized for NLOS backhaul. These antennas are highly directional and feature low side-lobes to minimize interference as well as fading in NLOS environments.

  • Sharp-roll off Filters that minimize interference from systems operating on adjacent frequencies and enable colocation with different mobile and wireless access systems.

  • High system gain provides robust signal in urban areas. High system gain allows for a large fade margin that increases reliability.
