Blitzcreek Pro Fishing Brings Angler and Young Angler Kids Fishing Tournament to Lindsay

Tournament allows children to compete in a professional style, televised, fishing tournament just for them.

LINDSAY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 7, 2008) - North America's most popular televised kids fishing tournament series, Angler and Young Angler, is coming to Lindsay, Ontario on May 25, 2008. "Finally a fishing tournament for kids which allows them to experience being the pros in the boat," says Site Coordinator and Tournament Director, Chris Hockley. "Blitzcreek Pro Fishing, DT Powersports and a number of local sponsors have teamed up to bring an Angler & Young Angler fishing tournament to southern Ontario for the first time ever!"

Media are invited to attend the tournament and a boat will be running from 10am - 1pm on the day of the event to allow for good photo opportunities and to experience the tournament first hand.

A limited field of 40 teams, consisting of one adult with two kids ages 17 or under, will gather at Rivera Park in Lindsay, Ontario on Sturgeon Lake to compete for an amazing array of prizes supplied by both national corporate sponsors and local businesses. No one will go home empty-handed. However, the first first-place team will not only walk away with bragging rights and a trophy, but they will be the proud new owner's of a Lund boat, motor and trailer package! In addition to this, they will qualify for the national championship that takes place in August on world famous Lake of the Woods, Ontario. This tournament is filmed by In-Fisherman and aired internationally. Last years winners of the championship event enjoyed a fully expense paid trip to Totem Resorts for the family. A prize valued at more than $25,000! This year's prize has yet to be announced but is of very similar value.

There are no cash prizes in this unique tournament. Event expenses are covered by each team's $150 entry fee. Any money made at the event will be donated to Chris Hockley's Fish for the Wish program that raises money for The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada through fishing.

This first of a kind tournament for southern Ontario is to be filmed by the television show Angler and Hunter. Show host, Cam Brownson, and fishing celebrities including Dave Mercer will also be involved in the event. Not only will the kids have a chance to compete in professional style tournament they will also have the opportunity to meet these celebrities and be on local and national television right across Canada!

Known for its plentiful number of big fish, Sturgeon Lake is surely the perfect venue for this event. Three walleye are the target catch for each team. The team with the most amount of weight for these three fish will win and qualify for the national championship. All of the tournament caught fish will later be released via the Shimano live release boat.

The event will begin Saturday evening with a rules meeting and how-to fishing seminar presented by Lindsay native, Professional Walleye Tour competitor and Canadian National Pro Team member - Sheldon Hatch. The tournament day will start with an early morning breakfast at the launch, followed by the day fishing and will finally wrap up with a barbeque and awards ceremony.

The Angler & Young Angler Walleye Championship began in 1998 when Tournament Founder, Andrew Klopak decided he wanted to fish in a competitive style tournament on opening day with his son. Because there were no tournaments that catered to adult and young anglers - he created his own.

The main objective is to introduce and educate young anglers to competitive sport fishing in a fun environment surrounded by family and friends while creating memories that will last a lifetime. Each team in the tournaments consists of one angler and two young anglers, 17 and under.

Each event includes official weigh-in, prizes, awards and a barbeque to follow a hard day's fishing. The winner of each regional event qualifies for the opportunity to participate in the National Championship. The Sturgeon Lake event is just one of the qualifiers in Ontario.

In fact, the successes of the original Manitoba tournament lead to the expansion into other provinces and now into the United States. The Angler & Young Angler fishing tournaments continue to grow with ten regional events this year, as well as an international championship held in late August on beautiful Lake of the Woods, Kenora, Ontario. In order to expand the exposure youth fishing, a complete television special is produced each year, featuring the regional events, as well as the championship.
