Block Island sits just 14 miles north off the Long Island Sound. In its 10 square miles, it hosts more than 365 fresh water ponds and 17 miles of beaches. Land trusts and conservancies protect almost half of the island, but the remaining portion is a popular vacation destination each summer. Many of those visitors rent mopeds for their source of island transportation.
In fact, moped rentals can exceed 20,000 per season, so the switch from conventional oil to G-OIL will make a significant impact. According to Mr. Leone, "I think we found the perfect solution with G-OIL. It's the most environmentally friendly synthetic oil available on the market today. Less emissions is better for riders, better for our mopeds and better for Block Island. This is the right direction to take."
"When I learned of the mandate of the Town Council last August that required mopeds to use more environmentally friendly 'synthetic oil,' as a conservation minded, long time visitor of this beautiful Island (and home owner for 11 years) as well as investor in alternative energy, including Green Earth Technologies, I felt connecting these two made a lot of sense. In doing so, I think we found a solution that benefits both parties and most importantly the fragile ecosystem of Block Island," said Greg Wertz, who played a pivotal role introducing G-OIL to the island.
Unlike petroleum-based oils that do not biodegrade in water and are a major source of pollution in lakes, streams and rivers throughout the United States, G-OIL is Ultimate Biodegradable which is the highest biodegradability ranking as determined by ASTM Standards (2.1 ASTM D-5864). In addition, scientific investigation performed by Intertek Expert Services proved that G-OIL achieved remarkable environmental benefits when compared to conventional oils, reducing carbon footprint up to 67% lower and resource depletion up to 76% lower. The sustainability advantages of G-OIL products are the fundamental result of our use of renewable, non-fossil based resources (bio-content).
"Exceeding the US Department of Agriculture's BioPreferred® Program 'bio-content' requirement, our domestically sourced and produced bio-synthetic G-OIL delivers uncompromising performance while 3rd Party testing confirmed the reduction of harmful emissions up to 67% when compared to conventional oils," said Jeffrey Loch, President and CMO of Green Earth Technologies, the manufacturer of G-OIL. "With results like these, choosing "green" just became the logical choice."
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's BioPreferred program recently finalized its 10th round of procurement regulations, which specify that engine crankcase oil with at least 25% bio-based content will receive federal procurement preference. Green Earth Technologies recently announced the addition of its 4-cycle crank case oils to its current assortment of 2-cycle and bar & chain oils identified as a Federal Procurement Preferred Product, all of which displays the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Certified BioPreferred® Product Label. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's BioPreferred Product Label verifies that the product's amount of renewable bio-based ingredients meets or exceeds prescribed USDA levels. Bio-based products are goods composed in whole or in significant part of agricultural, forestry or marine materials. All bio-based amount claims are verified by independent labs and monitored by the USDA. Consumers may feel secure in the accuracy of the bio-based amount and be empowered in making better-informed purchasing decisions.
