Blogger Leah Selakovic Supports Non-Profit Organization 'Dress for Success'

SINGAPORE--(Marketwired - Oct 23, 2014) - Even today, women in the corporate world are still facing more challenges and barriers than their male counterparts. On their way up the career ladder they frequently bump into the proverbial 'glass ceiling,' resulting in only 14.6 % of executive positions being filled by women according to a Fortune 500 statistic for the year 2013. But women are not just struggling on the managing floors, it is often just as hard to return to the working environment coming out of unemployment. A self-declared feminist who has spent many years in the corporate world herself, Leah Selakovic vowed to help women in their employment endeavors. For that purpose she has been endorsing and supporting one organization in particular which is dedicated to empower women by providing them with professional attire for job interviews: Dress for Success.

Dress for Success follows the mission of promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged women. To do so, they provide job-appropriate clothing, professional support and career advice to women to help them advance in their private and professional lives. The not-for-profit organization was founded in 1997 in New York City and has since then evolved into an international movement with locations in the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe and the West Indies. Every year, approximately 70,000 women coming from a diverse group including homeless shelters, job training programs, immigration services, domestic violence shelters or educational institutions, benefit from the organization's caring services.

"The idea is simple, but brilliant," explains Leah Selakovic. "Once a female job applicant has an interview scheduled, she can approach Dress for Success to receive appropriate clothing and even accessories to get her ready for her interview. And she can even come back for a second outfit once she lands a job. The first impression and appearance during a job interview is crucial and thanks to this program, women who have everything it takes for a job, but cannot afford a professional wardrobe at the moment, can overcome this barrier." Contributions to the organization can be made in many ways, through financial or in-kind donations, volunteer work, or spreading the word through donation drives or online platforms.

Once a highly successful business woman herself, Leah Selakovic decided to quit the corporate world after having her first child and has been enjoying the role of a mother ever since. Nevertheless, she was still driven by her creative spirit to do more. Motivated by her wish to write children's literature, she discovered her talent and passion as an author. That talent combined with her academic background in history and the arts as well as her yearlong efforts to support philanthropic causes and charities inspired her to merge her skills and interests into a blog which she now uses as a channel to spread the message of women empowerment all over the world.
