Blowin' It Out on St. Patrick's Day: Tullamore Dew Tracks the Cost of an Irish-American Tradition

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 7, 2007 -- Boston has the oldest parade, New York the biggest, Hot Springs, Arkansas the shortest -- and in Chicago and San Antonio, they dye the rivers green. As the inhabitants of the world's biggest melting pot, Americans have a way of putting our own peculiar stamp on every holiday -- and every March 17, we enthusiastically adopt the wearin' of the green, from banners and buttons to day-glo hair and some truly peculiar clothing items.

But if everyone's a little bit Irish on St. Patrick's Day, isn't it imperative for each of us to get in the groove? Tullamore Dew, the quintessential Irish whiskey that's known for its distinctive taste and smooth palate, offers a list of key items to ensure that every American can blow out the day in appropriate style. (The following list tracks costs in New York City. Feel free to make your own substitutions.)

-- Classic Irish Fry Up Breakfast (Fitzpatrick Hotel)
    to start the day $15.00

-- Lucky Charms Cereal before bed at $ 3.92

Celebrating with all the trimmings in New York will set you back just over $120.00, including a modest -- but responsible -- $6.00 cab ride. (Or one could take the subway and save a couple bucks, but don't wait until the bars close.) Wherever the celebration -- at home, by the side of a Kelly green river or in a local pub -- a mellow glass of Irish whiskey or an authentic Irish Coffee is certain to make the day complete. To wit, a final recipe suggestion:

Ultimate Irish Coffee from the Buena Vista Café, San Francisco

1. Fill an Irish coffee glass with very hot water to pre-heat then empty.
2. Pour hot coffee into hot glass until it is about 3/4 full.
3. Drop in 2 cocktail sugar cubes; stir until sugar is thoroughly
4. Add full jigger of Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey for proper taste
     and body.
5. Top with a collar of lightly whipped cream by pouring gently over
     a spoon.
6. Enjoy it while piping hot.
Slainté & a very happy St. Patrick's Day!
