Blue Thunder Auto Transport Chooses Ritchie Bros. to Sell Assets by Unreserved Auction

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - March 16, 2007) - Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers (TSX:RBA)(NYSE:RBA), the world's largest truck and industrial equipment auctioneer, announced today that it will be selling more than 400 late-model car carriers in six separate Ritchie Bros. unreserved auctions, on behalf of Blue Thunder Auto Transport, Inc., an Atlanta, Georgia-based hauler of new vehicles for automakers in the U.S.

"We've been in business for over 40 years and we have never seen a selection of late-model car carriers like this at an unreserved auction," said Dean Siddle, Vice President of Transportation for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. "There is a lot of interest in these carriers already and we look forward to the six upcoming auctions where they will be sold unreserved - meaning they will sell to the highest bidders, regardless of price."

The upcoming Ritchie Bros. auctions include:

The car carriers have Sterling and Freightliner power units and are Boydstun, Nu Van and Sun Country carriers.

"Blue Thunder had these car carriers located across the United States. Logistically, this could have been an issue," said Mr. Siddle. "But, due to our network of auction sites located across the nation, it conveniently allowed Blue Thunder to bring their car carriers to the nearest Ritchie Bros. auction site."

As with all Ritchie Bros. auctions, registration is free and interested bidders need to bring photo identification (including a driver's license or photo identification card) and a current business card. Everything is sold "As is, where is" on auction day and there are no minimums or reserve prices whatsoever. Credit bidding will also not be permitted at the auctions. Registration starts a few days before each auction at the auction site (go to www.rbauction.com/transportation for more information, including details and photographs). Interested bidders are encouraged to test and inspect all auction lots ahead of the auction.

1. IN PERSON -- Interested buyers can register in person at one or more of the above auction sites a few days before each auction up to and including auction day itself. Bidding occurs in person during the auction event.

2. ONLINE - Interested buyers can register online for one or more of the above auctions and must do so at least three business days before the auction commences. A bidding deposit may be required. Online bidding occurs live and in real-time, using the company's rbauctionBid-Live service.

3. BY PROXY - Interested buyers that cannot attend an auction can place a bid by proxy with rbauctionBid-Proxy or by contacting one of the above-mentioned Ritchie Bros. auction sites.

A Ritchie Bros. auction is an entertaining, fast-paced affair. Mobile trucks and equipment move over a ramp in front of a seated crowd while the crowd bids on the items. The company's auctioneers are experts at keeping up the fast pace of the sale and all prices are determined by the bidders in the crowd and online. Every item sells on auction day, and often items are sold in under a minute. Last year, Ritchie Bros. held over 175 unreserved industrial auctions around the world, generating gross auction sales of US$2.72 billion.
