BlueArc and Hitachi Data Systems to Demonstrate Multi-Vendor Storage Virtualization at Storage Networking World

Companies' Collaboration Offers Customers the Most Advanced Integrated Block and File Virtualization Capability for Today's High Performance Enterprise Environments

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 17, 2007 -- STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD -- BlueArc® Corporation, a market leader in scalable, high-performance unified storage, today announced the company, in partnership with Hitachi Data Systems, will demonstrate the Titan 2000 storage system's interoperability with Hitachi Data Systems' Network Storage Controller NSC 55, delivering the ability to consolidate multi-vendor storage environments, leveraging existing assets and maintaining highest levels of performance, scalability and ease of use at the Storage Networking World event in San Diego, California.

At Storage Networking World, BlueArc Titan 2000 systems, attached to Hitachi Data Systems' NSC 55, will be displayed in booth #G6, serving data from multiple vendors' disk offerings, presenting customers a single point of management for heterogeneous tiered storage, including leading vendors such as EMC, HP, IBM, Sun, and LSI Logic. Hitachi Data Systems and BlueArc will also be demonstrating replication between their respective booths on the show floor, delivering combined block and file virtualization, including virtualized LUNs, volumes, file systems, namespace and servers.

"Data center administrators are dealing with an increasingly complex range of storage solutions as they balance the need to consolidate storage management with the need to support a increasingly diverse set of applications, including a rapid increase in file-based applications," said Brad Nisbet, program manager for Storage Systems research at IDC. "Solutions that add file-level services to existing block-level virtualization, like the combination of BlueArc's Titan 2000 and Hitachi Data Systems' NSC 55, will make it easier for administrators to reduce the complexities associated with managing both file and block data among heterogeneous arrays."

A constantly changing IT infrastructure is a recurring theme faced by enterprise storage and networking managers. Finding a solution to consolidate multiple file servers and network attached storage (NAS) devices can be an incredible challenge. BlueArc and Hitachi Data Systems storage systems enable enterprise administrators to consolidate large numbers of servers and virtualize externally attached storage, while accelerating network storage performance for critical applications.

The combined solution set offered by BlueArc and Hitachi Data Systems brings together two best of breed platforms into a single powerful solution that reduces storage and management costs, dramatically increases data access performance, reduces power and cooling demands, and provides investment protection for storage assets. Joint customers recognize market-leading storage density, and dramatically reduced power and cooling demands when compared to leading network storage providers.

"Today's enterprise customers demand highest levels of performance and scalability from their network storage environments, while easily integrating into company's existing infrastructure," said Steve Daheb, vice president of marketing and business development for BlueArc. "Through BlueArc's partnership with Hitachi Data Systems, our combined offerings enable customers to address the widest array of storage types and vendors on the market today, through advanced virtualization, without compromising in terms of performance, scalability, ease of use and lowest total cost of ownership."
