BlueArc Positioned in Visionaries Quadrant of Leading Industry Analyst Firm's Magic Quadrant for Midrange and High-End NAS Solutions

BlueArc Evaluated Based on Its Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2010) -  BlueArc® Corporation, a leader in scalable, high-performance unified network storage, today announced that Gartner, Inc. has positioned the company in the Visionaries quadrant in a recently released report, Magic Quadrant for Midrange and High-End NAS Solutions(1). Gartner, a leading worldwide IT research and advisory firm, evaluated vendors according to a set of criteria focused on each company's ability to execute and completeness of vision in the storage market.

Gartner states in the report, "Despite the tremendous economic challenges, the midrange and high-end NAS hardware market fared rather well in 2009, with vendor revenue declining only 2% year on year -- in contrast to many other IT industries, which registered more sizeable revenue declines. This favorable position was a result of two main factors: users' fast-growing unstructured file data and NAS vendors' continued innovation, such as deduplication/compression and storage tiering, to meet user requirements."

In 2009, BlueArc released Mercury™, a midrange-priced platform that supports all features running on BlueArc's high-end Titan platform, including a built-in policy-based data migration tool for storage tiering, a virtual filer with automated failover and common namespace for scale-out clustering. The company also enhanced SiliconFS® -- the underlying file system for the Mercury and Titan platforms, and expanded relationships with OEM partners HDS and SGI and deduplication appliance partner Ocarina.

"BlueArc has been best-known for our leadership in high performance computing environments and Mercury has enabled us to extend this legacy to the enterprise," said Mike Gustafson, CEO and president of BlueArc. "We believe this industry evaluation recognizes our innovation and ability to uniquely address the evolving enterprise storage challenges, and the demand we're experiencing from customers and partners confirms our approach."

"Building on our unique, patented file system, the Titan and Mercury platforms deliver highly-scalable and cost-effective storage solutions that help customers gain control of exploding data growth and optimize application performance to solve the most critical storage requirements," added Bridget Warwick, vice president of Marketing at BlueArc.

With the explosive growth of unstructured data, companies of all sizes are struggling to keep pace. BlueArc addresses storage inefficiencies with network storage solutions based on an embedded and unified file system architecture called SiliconFS® that is optimized for high-performance data management. The result is the ability to control the volume, value and longevity of data, on any scale and with a level of sustained performance that is unmatched by any storage company.

All over the world, customers in enterprise markets -- as well as data intensive industries such as electronic discovery, media and entertainment, government, Internet services, oil and gas and life sciences -- rely on BlueArc. The company's leading performance, scalability and intelligent data management capabilities enable businesses to lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) of their storage infrastructure and gain business advantages.
