Bluelock Optimizes VMware Cloud Services Capabilities With Xsigo

Xsigo Virtual I/O Helps Cloud Provider Boost Hardware Utilization by 8X, Delivers 40X More Bandwidth to Servers for Faster, More Flexible Services

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 20, 2011) - Xsigo Systems, Inc., the leader in I/O virtualization, today announced that Bluelock, an experienced provider of Virtual Datacenters hosted in the public cloud, has deployed Xsigo virtual I/O in their VMware vCloud® services data center. As a result, Bluelock has boosted scalability with 8X greater virtual machine capacity, and reduced infrastructure hardware requirements by 80%, resulting in enhanced service levels, faster response time, and greater overall economies.

"Bluelock's clients require quickly scalable services to meet their most demanding application needs. Because of this, we wanted a flexible, converged infrastructure that would both increase efficiency and help us to deliver the industry's most responsive service," said Aaron Branham, director of information technology at Bluelock. "With Xsigo virtual I/O now in place, the results speak for themselves: our clients have been very impressed with the performance of their Virtual Datacenters and we've been able to further build our business by quickly accommodating even the most demanding workloads."

Bluelock, one of only three global VMware vCloud Datacenter service providers running certified services today, found that its rapidly growing business demanded ever-greater data center capacity. After implementing Xsigo virtual I/O to consolidate their infrastructure, Bluelock was able to dynamically manage capacity to accommodate workloads for even their largest clients like LAMCO (formerly Lehman Brothers) and Consona Corporation.

Branham continued, "With our previous infrastructure, we needed 50 networking devices for every 500 virtual machines. With Xsigo, we can accommodate 8x the workload with just 10 network devices. Furthermore, we get 40X more bandwidth to each server and can now make configuration changes in seconds rather than hours or days."

Other benefits Bluelock realized with Xsigo virtual I/O include:

  • 40 times more usable bandwidth per server
  • 97.5 percent reduction in network devices
  • Eight times greater virtual machine capacity
  • 17 times more VMs per hardware device
  • 66 percent less cabling
  • Real time performance monitoring of virtual NICs and virtual HBAs
  • Improved power consumption and uptime

"We are thrilled that Bluelock has selected Xsigo as the backbone of their highly-successful VMware-certified Virtual Datacenter service offering," said Lloyd Carney, CEO of Xsigo Systems. "Xsigo virtual I/O provides the ideal platform for on-demand services, delivering the performance and flexibility needed for Bluelock and their clients to fully capitalize on the business benefits of the cloud."
