Blunt Hits #1 on "Billboard" Hot 100 With "You're Beautful"; "BACK TO BEDLAM" Breaks Into Top Five, Goes Platinum; Oprah Appearance Slated for Next Week

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 2, 2006 -- "You're Beautiful," the smash single from Custard/Atlantic recording artist James Blunt, has hit #1 on the "Billboard" Hot 100 singles chart. Blunt is the first British artist to top the U.S. singles chart since Elton John reached #1 with "Candle In The Wind" in 1997.

"BACK TO BEDLAM," Blunt's debut album, breaks into the top five this week on the "Billboard" 200 for the first time since its release, landing in the #5 spot. In addition, the album, which was released in the U.S. on October 4, 2005, has been certified platinum by the RIAA for U.S. sales in excess of one million units.

Besides being #1 on the Hot 100, "You're Beautiful" remains the #1 Hot Digital Song for the fourth consecutive week and has just been certified as a double platinum digital single by the RIAA. For the second week in a row, the single ranks at #1 on "Billboard's" Pop 100 chart and at national Hot AC/Adult Top 40 radio. The companion video is currently in Big Ten rotation on MTV and has been #1 on VH1, where Blunt has been a "You Oughta Know" artist for 17 consecutive weeks.

In other Blunt news, he recently taped a performance and interview for "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which is slated to air next Wednesday, March 8th.

Meanwhile, Blunt continues to enjoy spectacular success in his native UK and around the globe. With worldwide sales now over 7.3 million units, "BACK TO BEDLAM" ranks #1 on the European Top 100 Albums chart for the seventh consecutive week (eight weeks total). The album has thus far hit #1 in 16 territories, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. "BACK TO BEDLAM" has now gone nine times platinum in the UK, where it has sold 2.9 million units and was the biggest-selling album of 2005. Blunt was recently honored with two BRIT Awards, for Best Pop Act and Best British Male Solo Artist.
