BMO Harris Bank Increases Valley of the Sun United Way Support

Corporate Gift Transforms Lives and Ends Homelessness for Many

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - Dec 20, 2012) - Following its long-standing tradition of building and strengthening communities, BMO Harris Bank Arizona President Steve Johnson announced a corporate gift of $50,000 in support of Valley of the Sun United Way. The funds will be directed to the agency's focus to end homelessness, specifically its permanent supportive housing developments and will provide basic household essentials for the Encanto Pointe project, developed by Native American Connections.

Encanto Pointe is a new 54-unit apartment complex in Phoenix that will provide permanent supportive housing and serve formerly chronically homeless individuals. Following the Housing First model, residents will be provided supportive services tailored to their specific needs. Native American Connections owns and operates Encanto Pointe and has partnered with United Way to ensure supportive services are provided for all residents. The supportive services include medical and behavioral health care and job placement, among other services, which enable residents to maintain their housing and move toward independence.

"Since we opened our doors to become part of the Arizona community more than 45 years ago, our employees and our company have supported the important work provided by the Valley of the Sun United Way," commented Johnson. "This year in particular, we understand the pressing need in our local communities to put roofs over peoples' heads."

The donation represents a greater level of funding, which builds on BMO Harris Bank's on-going commitment to community support. The timing of the announcement coincides with the bank's Employee Giving Campaign kick-off. All BMO employees are encouraged to give back to their community through giving of their time, talents, and financial resources. Employees will also be volunteering their time to help United Way and Native American Connections "prep" the units for residents to move into.

"BMO Harris Bank is leading the way to ensure youth succeed in school and life, families are financially self-sufficient and people have food on the table and a place to call home," said Nancy Dean, Valley of the Sun United Way's Senior Vice President for Resource Development. "With each contribution to United Way's annual workforce fundraising campaign, we see the organization's passion and commitment to building a stronger community for us all."
