BNP Paribas Sponsors Largest Children's Math Tournament in NYC

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - May 11, 2011) - BNP Paribas Corporate and Investment Banking is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the 6th annual AMS Pi5NY Math Tournament (pi5ny.com) on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Manhattan.

BNP Paribas is once again partnering with the Urban Assembly School of Applied Math and Science, the New York City Department of Education and The Fund for Public Schools to host the largest in-person math tournament in the country with an anticipated attendance of over 1,000 students from all five of New York's boroughs -- a 20 percent increase in participation from 2010's record-breaking numbers.

The math tournament will be held indoors at the Armory, on Manhattan's upper west side. The activities commence with an Olympic-style parade of mathletes, followed by the 45-minute competition where teams compete to answer the most problems correctly.

BNP Paribas believes education is fundamental to the development of people and society, as well as to economic growth. The BNP Paribas Foundation has recognized this challenge and since 1995, has pursued a global program of action to fight against educational and cultural inequalities that impact children and teenagers from underserved neighborhoods.
