BNSF Makes the 2008 InformationWeek 500

FORT WORTH, TX--(Marketwire - September 16, 2008) - BNSF Railway Company was honored last night as an InformationWeek 500 company by InformationWeek magazine.

"For 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. "Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue, and establish a competitive advantage."

BNSF was included in the InformationWeek 500 for its work on updating its main support application, the Transportation Support System (TSS). TSS helps BNSF keep track of more than 6,000 locomotives and 220,000 freight cars and the work of 40,000 people 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

BNSF updated TSS, now called TSS Xpress, to reduce more than 3,400 commands under the old application to fewer than 100 menu items. TSS Xpress offers a number of advantages such as advanced data filtering and sorting, a new graphical format, menu standardization across the system, and a streamlined process that consolidates a number of actions.

InformationWeek has identified and honored the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual listing and has tracked the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America's best-known companies. The list is unique among corporate rankings because it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
