Boca Raton Dentist Offers Free Flights During Child's Program

BOCA RATON, FL --(Marketwired - April 27, 2016) - Dr. Robert Eckelson, a premier orthodontist and certified pilot, recently joined with volunteers to give free flights to children with physical and learning disabilities.

Vital Flight Kids Day is an event held annually in Boca Raton. On April 2, pilots and volunteers gathered at the Boca Raton Airport to take children on fun 10- to 15-minute flights around Boca Raton. Dr. Eckelson flies his own Piper Turbo Dakota, a four-seater plane. The children received flight safety training before soaring in small planes with a certified pilot.

"For many of them, this was their first-ever flight," Dr. Eckelson said. "The kids were educated on flight safety, the different airplanes and some were even allowed to take control of the planes, making it a day they won't soon forget."

Dr. Eckelson is passionate about using his piloting skills to help others. He is a certified flight instructor and flies for for Angel Flight, a nonprofit organization that provides free flights for medical patients who cannot afford commercial airfare. With Angel Flight, Dr. Eckelson flies sick patients to and from their medical appointments and procedures, and he also has personally flown pediatric patients, cancer patients and even organ donor recipients.

Vital Flight Kids Day is a special chance for Dr. Eckelson to meet new faces and excite children about the beauty of flight.

"This is one of my favorite events of the year because it involves my two favorite passions: helping children and flying," Dr. Eckelson said.
