Boca Raton Orthodontist Adds Revolutionary Plaque-Identifying Toothpaste

BOCA RATON, FL--(Marketwired - November 17, 2015) - A Boca Raton orthodontist is offering his patients new toothpaste that identifies areas in the mouth where patients need to improve their brushing.

Dr. Robert Eckelson recently began offering Plaque HD toothpaste, a product that colors plaque blue to make it easy to identify. After applying the fluoride-based toothpaste, the patient brushes until the blue color goes away. Dr. Eckelson said the new toothpaste is ideal for both children and adult patients.

"This is a great tool because patients can identify the plaque in their mouth and now physically see the areas they need to focus on while brushing," Dr. Eckelson said. "Plaque is actually soft and can be easily removed, but when it is not removed from the teeth properly, it can harden to create tartar and lead to tooth decay."

As an orthodontist, Dr. Eckelson said he always looks for new ways his patients can improve their oral health and avoid cavities. Plaque is a leading cause of tooth damage and gum problems. The bacteria often builds up around the gumline, between teeth, on the surface of teeth and around metal brackets used for braces.

Plaque HD uses Targetol TechnologyTM that is safe and proven to help patients keep a healthier mouth.

"Our younger patients especially benefit from this because it's something they can see in their mouth. It's also hard to explain the long-term effects of poor dental hygiene to a child, but this is a great tool that allows us to physically show the patient where they need to brush," Dr. Eckelson said. "Our parents and adults love it, too, because it helps protect their investments and keep their teeth looking great."
