Boeing Selects TRU Simulation + Training to Develop Full Flight Training Suite for the 737 MAX

FARNBOROUGH, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - July 14, 2014) - FARNBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL AIR SHOW -- TRU Simulation + Training, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, has signed an agreement with Boeing to supply the Full Flight Simulator (FFS) training suite for Boeing's newest single-aisle airplane, the 737 MAX.

The agreement establishes TRU Simulation + Training as the supplier for the full suite of Boeing 737 MAX flight simulation training equipment. According to Boeing, the 737 MAX has reached the 2,000-order mark faster than any other airplane in the company's history.

The initial contract includes development, production and maintenance training for three flight training components:

  • 737 MAX FFS X™
  • High-fidelity, flat panel, flight and procedures trainer with 3D hardware components
  • Desktop trainer for use as a classroom virtual cockpit instructional tool

The first 737 MAX FFS is expected to be ready for training in 2017. The new flight training suite will feature TRU Simulation + Training's state-of-the-art simulation technology, as well as next generation features and enhancements produced by ongoing collaboration between the two companies.

"This contract is an extension of Boeing's relationship with elements of TRU Simulation + Training that began some 10 years ago," said Sherry Carbary, vice president of Boeing Flight Services. "Given the company's track record of customer responsiveness and its willingness to partner with us to define and meet increasingly sophisticated flight training requirements; we are looking forward to what the next 10 years will bring."

The new contract comes a little more than a year after Boeing commissioned TRU Simulation + Training to produce an FFS for its Next-Generation 737-700 and -800 series airplanes. TRU recently installed the FFS at Boeing's Flight Services Campus in Singapore.

"We are delighted with the continued trust Boeing has placed in our company, especially within the context of such an important commercial airplane program," said George Karam, TRU Simulation + Training vice president and general manager, Air Transport Simulation. "Both Boeing and TRU are committed to offering high-fidelity training solutions to operators around the world, and our innovative technology and customers-first flexible approach help make us unique in working with aircraft manufacturers to support their customers."

TRU Simulation + Training was formed in April out of three legacy companies -- Mechtronix Inc. and OPINICUS Corporation that were acquired by Textron late last year, and a portion of the former AAI Logistics & Technical Services.
