Bokeem Woodbine Joins Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre in the #RedSandProject on Giving Tuesday, December 1, 2015

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - December 01, 2015) - Today, Bokeem Woodbine, who plays Mike Milligan on Fargo, is helping children and youth at Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre stand up to the bad guys by raising awareness for the issue of child abuse and human trafficking in Toronto.

Woodbine will join Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre staff, directors, volunteers and supporters at Yonge & Dundas to participate in the #RedSandProject, a social media movement to bring awareness to at risk children and youth that have fallen through the cracks of our society. By using red sand to fill the cracks of sidewalks on our downtown streets the group hopes to make visible the over 40,000 concerns of child abuse reported in Toronto each year.

Child abuse affects thousands of children in our city every year, yet so often it is not recognized or reported by those around the child. Everybody in our community has a moral and legal responsibility to report any concern of child maltreatment. If an individual does not report their concern, the child will most likely fall through the cracks.

"The Red Sand Project is a real opportunity for us to draw attention to the fact that there are so many children that are being abused, sexually exploited on the Internet and sexually trafficked. It's a visual demonstration of what's happening in our city with the thousands of children being abused every year," stated Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre President & CEO, Karyn Kennedy.

When asked about his support for the charity, Woodbine stated, "Boost is the perfect way for me to lend my support to the city of Toronto. It's a very worthwhile charity and if we can't protect the children then what kind of society do we really have?"
