Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation is celebrating the successful first month of passenger services for the world's first INNOVIA APM 300 automated people mover system delivered at Dubai International. The new 1.5 km elevated rail link connects the airport's Terminal 1 to the new Concourse D which opened on February 24, 2016. The turnkey transit system has the capacity to transport more than 100,000 passengers daily.

Per Allmer, President of Region Western Europe, Middle East and Africa at Bombardier Transportation said, "Congratulations to Dubai Airports on the opening of the impressive Concourse D and for the smooth start to services for the first INNOVIA APM 300 system in the world." He continued, "With our latest INNOVIA APM 300 technology, Bombardier has developed a high performing, energy efficient fully-automated transit solution. It will provide reliable connections for millions of airport passengers at this fast growing, prestigious global aviation hub for many years to come."

Bombardier is also the operator and maintainer of the system. Two five-car INNOVIA APM 300 trains operate a shuttle service 24 hours-a-day and seven days-a-week. In its first month of service, the system's monthly average availability exceeded the contractual requirements. The system has served a daily average of 200 flights and 50,000 passengers so far, and accrued an average daily mileage of approximately 2,000 km.

Bombardier designed and supplied all of the electrical and mechanical (E&M) elements for the APM system, and was the system integrator for the project delivery. The scope included the INNOVIA APM 300 vehicles, BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) technology for driverless operation. Bombardier also provided project management, systems engineering, testing and commissioning. In addition, Bombardier will provide five years of operation and maintenance services for the new APM system.

Bombardier has been a world leader in the development of APM technology for more than four decades. Today, Bombardier has 26 APM systems in service in airport and urban operations around the world, plus four more systems in delivery.
