Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation is, celebrating its 90th anniversary of rail control leadership in Poland this year. The anniversary was marked yesterday at an event hosted by Bombardier for its valued customers and prominent industry stakeholders. Since its origins in 1926, Bombardier Transportation's Katowice site, part of its Rail Control Solutions division, has continued to pioneer many technical contributions for the Polish rail signalling industry, which have also become fundamental to the development of trans-European Rail Corridors. Today, Bombardier's site has grown to over 700 employees and it is a prominent local employer and manufacturer.

Peter Cedervall, President, Rail Control Solutions Division, Bombardier Transportation, said, "Our Polish signalling team is a central pillar in our global organisation, with an excellent track record in its home market and for exporting products and services to our teams around the world. We are very happy to have a strong and high-performing partnership with the Polish Government and Rail Industry. Together, we look forward to the next 90 years of bringing higher capacity and inter-connectivity to Poland and its neighbours."

Bombardier has a long tradition and experience in the rail signalling industry in Poland. From its start as a single workshop, the site in Katowice has undergone various organisational changes. In 2001, it emerged as the PKP SA-Bombardier joint venture, Bombardier Transportation (ZWUS) Polska Sp. z o.o, and became fully owned by Bombardier in 2011. Over its history, innovations have included the first computer-based rail control systems introduced in Poland in the 1990s and the first remote traffic management system in 2001.

Today, Bombardier is Poland's leading provider of railway traffic control, management and supervision systems. All mainlines and two Warsaw Metro lines are equipped with its rail control technology, and products manufactured at the Katowice site are installed globally. In 2016, Bombardier became the first supplier to receive approval for operation in Poland of European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 2 wayside and onboard technology, and has four projects underway. The company has also won many local awards including the prestigious Ernest Malinowski Competition for Innovation, and in 2016 was named an 'Employee-Friendly Employer' for the third time in a programme sponsored by the President of the Republic of Poland.
