Bombardier Presents its Innovative Solutions for the Future of Mobility at Business on Rails 2014 in Brazil

- Metros, regional trains and monorail technologies to alleviate traffic congestion

- Complete rail control solutions and service-proven locomotive technology for the Brazilian market

- Smart Operations & Maintenance solutions to reduce total lifecycle costs

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL--(Marketwired - Nov. 11, 2014) - Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation presents a large portfolio of mobility solutions at Brazil's foremost railway trade exhibition Business on Rails. Under the 'The Evolution of Mobility' theme, Bombardier introduces its latest innovative technologies that solve the challenges of mobility to meet the needs of thriving cities.

"The high quality products that we present here are solutions that will boost the country's economic development. They increase capacity and modernize existing mass transit systems, reduce travel times between the largest cities and improve the efficiency of freight transportation", said Chris Fifield, Managing Director, Bombardier Transportation Brazil.

One of Bombardier's most innovative solutions designed to tackle the challenges of urban congestion is the new BOMBARDIER INNOVIA Monorail 300 system, equipped with the BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) technology. In Brazil, the INNOVIA Monorail 300 system for the São Paulo Metro began its first test phase operations on Line 15 in August 2014, connecting the 2.2 km link between the Vila Prudente and Oratório stations. When fully installed, the 24 km system will benefit more than half a million passengers daily and reduce the journey time between Vila Prudente and Cidade Tiradentes from over two hours to approximately 50 minutes. Cost effective and easy to install, this elevated monorail system provides mass transit capacities that meet the demand for efficient public transportation in densely populated cities.

Efficient and complimentary metro and regional railway networks are key to handling the growing number of passengers and alleviating the traffic congestion that currently affects urban flow within and between large cities. With this in mind, Bombardier has dedicated itself to developing metros and regional trains based on its BOMBARDIER ECO4 technologies that save energy while maximizing safety, efficiency, reliability and performance.

As a signaling solution market leader with global experience, Bombardier also offers a comprehensive portfolio of proven rail control products designed to increase availability and line capacity while maintaining high levels of safety, to meet the requirements of every railway operator. Currently, Bombardier is implementing its signaling technology in three important projects in Brazil.

For Metrô of São Paulo's Line 5 (metro) and Line 15 (monorail), Bombardier is installing CITYFLO 650, a CTBC driverless signaling and control system which, based on the moving block principle, enables the smallest possible headway between trains while maximizing passenger safety. The BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 250 solution, the first-ever European Train Control System (ETCS) system in Latin America, will operate on five branches of the Rio de Janeiro SuperVia network. INTERFLO 250 is an ERTMS Level 1 automatic train protection (ATP) solution for main lines. It allows automatic and safe management of travelling time between trains, including automatic stops. The system is being introduced for SuperVia as an overlay with minimal interruption to commercial operation.

Adapting technology to the specific needs of national freight operators, Bombardier also offers the multi-engine BOMBARDIER TRAXX locomotive. With its innovative four-diesel engine concept that controls each engine's output separately, this locomotive is not only eco-friendly, but also markedly reduces fuel consumption, emissions and lifecycle costs. The model developed for Brazil incorporates all of the developments of the market-leading TRAXX series, Europe's leading platform, of which more than 1,700 have already been sold worldwide.

In addition to its innovative rail vehicles, Bombardier also offers its World Class Fleet Operations and Maintenance Program to reduce total lifecycle costs. This program provides complete service for the modernization of electric multiple units (EMUs) and metros, including door and truck systems, interiors, propulsion, communication and air-conditioning systems, and other improvements for passenger comfort. Bombardier is currently putting forward this extensive know-how and expertise to modernize and prolong the operating life of 156 passenger rail cars for Companhia do Metroplitano de São Paulo (CMSP), the metro system of Brazil's largest city.

Join Bombardier at Business on Rails 2014 and discover the latest solutions for rail transportation that are already transforming mobility all over the world: Stand D29, November 11 to 13, from 1 PM to 8 PM, at Expo Center Norte, São Paulo, Brazil.
