Bombardier Showcases its Leading World-Class Expertise at the International Railway Equipment Exhibition in Delhi

After two years of successful deliveries of advanced metro trains built in India, Bombardier is ready to further expand its local industrial activities


BERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwire - Sept. 28, 2011) - Bombardier Transportation, the first multinational company to have invested in a wholly owned railway vehicle manufacturing site in India, is a key participant in this year's International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE), held in New Delhi from September 28 to 30. In addition to a display of its most advanced systems and products, such as BOMBARDIER MOVIA metros, BOMBARDIER ZEFIRO high speed trains and BOMBARDIER TRAXX locomotives, two Bombardier experts will deliver plenary sessions focusing on the cutting-edge technologies that fit the needs of railways in India. These include a session on eco-friendly electric locomotives and another on the use of advanced energy-saving BOMBARDIER MITRAC IGBT propulsion systems.

Raising transport capacity with Bombardier MOVIA metro

The success of the MOVIA metro is acknowledged by operators around the world. More than 3,900 MOVIA metro cars have been ordered to date. The TRAXX locomotives platform provides current and future customers with the advantage of long-term spare parts availability and a high residual value over the locomotive's lifetime.

Bombardier's TRAXX locomotive family features a high level of standardization and integration at the vehicle, system, and component levels. At IREE Bombardier is showcasing a scale model of the ZEFIRO 380. At speeds ranging from 200km/h up to 380 km/h, capable of carrying more that 600 passengers, the train will be not only one of the fastest and highest capacity trains in commercial use, but also one of the most environmentally friendly. This is made possible through innovative interior design and the application of BOMBARDIER ECO4 technologies such as AeroEfficient Optimized Train Shaping to substantially reduce drag, save energy and ensure stability at high speeds.

Bombardier MITRAC propulsion systems – the heart, muscles and brain of a train

The MITRAC portfolio is a complete family of propulsion and control products for metros, locomotives as well as commuter, regional, intercity and high speed trains. It powers some of the world's most reliable fleets, offering a smooth start, rapid acceleration, constant speed and low noise levels for an altogether comfortable rail journey. The MITRAC portfolio enhances the competitiveness of public transportation through its energy efficient, lightweight and compact designs. Proven pedigree and low life-cycle costs – BOMBARDIER FLEXX Metro 3000 bogie

The MOVIA metro trains ordered by DMRC are equipped with Bombardier's FLEXX Metro 3000 bogies, produced at its Savli plant. They are extremely robust, reliable and specifically adapted by our engineers to suit the existing infrastructure. To date, more than 1,200 FLEXX Metro 3000 bogies have been ordered as part of DMRC's fleet of MOVIA metros. The light-weight design of the FLEXX Metro bogie enables maximum vehicle capacity utilization with minimum energy consumption. Primary suspension with elastomeric components guarantees a high level of steering performance, with minimal noise emissions and vibrations creating environmental benefits.

Bombardier's FLEXX bogies portfolio is the most comprehensive in the world – resulting from 160 years of experience and future-oriented innovations. It covers the entire range of railway vehicles from metros to high speed applications, from trams to heavy haul locomotives. More than 200,000 FLEXX bogies are in operation around the globe every day ensuring safety, reliability and comfort.

Bombardier signalling solutions – enabling cost effective, reliable rail performance

With a century of specialist experience in railway signalling and control, Bombardier is ideally placed to meet the needs of today's train operators. BOMBARDIER INTERFLO main line solutions enable cost efficiency, higher speeds, greater capacity and increased availability. Adaptable to each customer's needs, they encompass integrated operational control systems and electronic interlocking systems, as well as automatic train protection and wayside equipment. INTERFLO solutions can be used to build complete, new railway infrastructures, or they can be overlaid on existing networks to upgrade to new safety and interoperability standards such as the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

The BOMBARDIER EBI Track 400 is a jointless track circuit system designed for use in areas where there is AC, DC or dual electrification with possibly strong interference signals. In meeting these challenging conditions, the equipment meets the needs of all known track circuits. Bombardier's EBI Link 2000 – Eurobalise is a highly reliable balise based on Bombardier's expertise in balise technology, which forms the core of the ERTMS. And Bombardier's EBI Screen traffic management system increases traffic capacity and optimises system operations while using simple command entry functions. Bombardier Transportation in India
