Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation announced today that TransLink, Metro Vancouver's regional transportation authority, has exercised options for the purchase of an additional 28 next-generation BOMBARDIER INNOVIA Metro 300 vehicles for service on the Vancouver SkyTrain network. This order is valued at $93 million CAD ($69 million US, 67 million euro). Production is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2017 and final delivery is expected in the fourth quarter of 2018.

With the supply of this new order of next-generation automated vehicles, Bombardier will support TransLink's efforts to open new lines and bring additional capacity, by carrying up to 3,640 more people on the SkyTrain network at a time - for more than a 12% increase. The leading-edge design of the INNOVIA Metro 300, that skillfully merges style and functionality, offers the quality of service and enhanced passenger experience necessary to help increase ridership and improve regional mobility in growing urban centres. Bombardier's customers can count on market-leading reliability, with INNOVIA vehicles providing best-in-class on-time performance and lowest maintenance costs per km in the industry.

"We are proud of our long-standing partnership with TransLink", said Benoît Brossoit, President, Bombardier Transportation, Americas Region. "By providing close to 300 high-quality, leading-edge vehicles, Bombardier has been an ally in the development of public transit in the Greater Metro Vancouver Area for over 30 years, servicing close to a billion passenger trips in that period. Today, our commitment to the region remains as strong as ever."

"Our SkyTrain is the world's longest driverless, automated rapid transit system and the additional 28 new Mark III SkyTrain cars will provide sorely needed additional capacity." said Kevin Desmond, CEO of TransLink. "The new trains, like the seven other Mark IIIs we recently put into service, will offer a quieter, more comfortable ride for our customers, big windows to show off SkyTrain's great views of Metro Vancouver, room for bikes and strollers, and the ability to walk from one end of the train all the way down to the other."

The latest generation of INNOVIA Metro 300 trains is designed with sustainability in mind. Equipped with Linear Induction Motor (LIM) propulsion technology, the trains are energy efficient for lower operating costs while providing passengers with a smooth and comfortable ride. As a part of Bombardier's effort to design for the environment, the trains are built from highly recyclable materials and fitted with the latest energy saving regenerative braking technology.

Its extensive, industry-leading, experience and knowledge has been amassed for more than 30 years through the development and implementation of more than 65 turnkey projects.
