Bombardier to Deliver 22 FLEXITY Outlook Trams to the City of Innsbruck, Austria

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 14, 2005) - Bombardier Transportation and its consortium partner ELIN EBG Traction have received an order from the transport authority of Innsbruck, Austria, Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH (IVB) for the delivery of 22 Bombardier FLEXITY Outlook trams. The total order is valued at approximately $61 million US (51 million euros), with Bombardier's share representing approximately $51 million US (42 million euros). The contract includes an option for 10 additional 100% low-floor vehicles of the same type.

The FLEXITY Outlook vehicles will be designed and manufactured at Bombardier's site in Vienna, while the consortium partner, ELIN EBG Traction, will be responsible for the electrical equipment.

Walter Grawenhoff, President, Light Rail Vehicles and Chief Country Representative, Austria, Bombardier Transportation stated: "The introduction of the FLEXITY Outlook vehicles in Graz and Linz has laid the foundations for this innovative family of trams. This new order from IVB demonstrates the trust in our engineering competence and the implementation of a truly innovative and aesthetic industrial design, which enhances the landscape of many cities in Europe."

Fritz Feitl, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Bombardier Transportation Austria, said: "The contract from IVB in Innsbruck further demonstrates Bombardier's strong presence in the Austrian rail market. Over the last few months, Bombardier has received tram-orders from the cities of Vienna and Linz as well as an order for 60 additional Talent vehicles from the Austrian Federal Railways (OBB)."

The FLEXITY tram for Innsbruck is based on a proven modular technology that features a 100% low-floor interior while using conventional wheel-set bogies which offer excellent dynamic characteristics in terms of comfort and safety. The 27.6-meter long vehicles can carry up to 160 passengers, including 60 seated. For heightened passenger comfort the new trams are equipped with air conditioning and a 40-ton buffer load which ensures active and passive passenger safety.

"We have found good partners in Bombardier and ELIN," emphasized Martin Baltes, manager of IVB. He added: "Brand new perspectives are opening for IVB and its customers. The new trams will undoubtedly emphasize the reliable and respected image of the IVB, while offering excellent riding behavior and increasing passenger comfort."

Transport authorities worldwide have already ordered over 1200 Bombardier FLEXITY trams and low-floor vehicles. Vehicles of the same family are in successful revenue service in the cities of Linz (Austria), Lodz (Poland), Eskisehir (Turkey), Geneva (Switzerland) and Brussels (Belgium)- and they are currently being manufactured for the cities of Marseille (France) and Valencia (Spain).

Bombardier Transportation employs approximately 570 people in Austria and the headquarters for its tram and light rail vehicle activities are located in Vienna. FLEXITY Outlook 100% low-floor vehicles for the cities of Graz and Linz were designed and manufactured at its Floridsdorf site, as well as light rail vehicles for Wiener Linien und Wiener Lokalbahnen. Bombardier has been very active in the Austrian rail market where it is currently delivering 171 Talent electric multiple units to the Austrian Federal Railways (OBB) for regional and commuter services, and is conducting various modernization projects for the same customer. Bombardier is also responsible for the electrical equipment of the commuter trains for the city of Linz.
